| Hi, today our Aspidelaps scutatus intermedius laid eggs. Result: 1 infertile and 5 good eggs. We are very happy we already came this far. Hopefully the good eggs will remain good and will hatch. We will see. And, ofcourse, I was very lucky I could make some pictures of this The eggs are smaller then I normally see in my Aspidelaps lubricus lubricus breedings. Average weigth is appr. 6 gramms /egg. Cheers, Harold | |

| Hi there!
Congratulations for this clutch!! I do love all the aspidelaps species, as I think they are a gorgeous representant of the small elapids!
How old are your breeders? What size?
Thanks a lot!

| Thank you Dirk!
@ Lucas: The snakes are not so big, I guess our animals are between 30 and 45 cm. We have animals from different age. Oldest are about 8 years I think. The youngest pair is two years old.
Aspidelaps scutatus intermedius have a very secretive way of living. They are more under the substrate as I've seen in my lubricus ssp. But I can see them in the evening when they start crawling thrue the cage.

| Hi Andrew, do you still keep scutatus ssp.? I would like some new pictures How are your lubricus doing? I still have a few clutches of A. lubricus lubricus in incubator. Still a month to go I guess. Cheers, Harold Hi Rainer, thank you I removed the eggs, but the female is still in the egg-box. I know there were observations of females 'taking care' of the eggs (Van Rensburg, 2007). My other Aspidelaps always left the nestingbox after I took the eggs. Quite interesting Cheers, Harold | |

| Hi Jonk,
I kept them at appr. 16 degrees for about three months I guess. They have been together all the time and I haven't seen any matings. These snakes are very secretive/shy.
After hibernation I keep them at 26-32 degrees celcius. Depending on temperatures outside.

| Very well Done Harold!
Did you try feed the babies yet? I found they eat very quickly and hungrily on newborn mice. Mine ate with gusto a day or two after hatching and before shedding! | |

| Thanks all!
@ Craig: I've read your article in Litteratura Serpentium about how easy they started feeding. I'll wait after they have shed their skin before I'll offer them a newborn mouse. Hopefully they will be as easy as yours.

| Congrats Herold, they are very nice little ones!
This was my first year getting anything from my A. s. scutatus and "limited success" is an over statement. Last year I tried them and saw copulation but never did get any eggs (from two pairs). This year I shortened hibernation to just a month and got one fertile and five slugs from one of the females. I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I will keep messing with them.
Again, congrats on your new hatchlings!
