Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Last weekend I have the chance to pic out 2 special looking Ahaetulla out of a large import clutch.
I think it is Ahaetulla mycterizans, but I have to count scales etc. At the moment they are isolated, but they still look good and have no ticks or mites.

Ahaetulla spec. P1050410

They bite quickly and I will try to feed them soon.

That was the little trap and the point, why I did´t write what I will feed. If this is mycterizans I have good chanaces to feed them with fishes. I will start a try on weekend, when it it successful I will integrate a small aquarium into the terrarium.

Hello Guys,
nice animals ...try your luck with fish but don´t be too disapointed ,when they not eat.
When you have luck the animals eat living fish and catch them out of a aquarium .
I have owned about 10 Ahaetullas and ONLY one animal seems to be interested and eats one time .
The most Ahaetullas like even lizards, but they had to be moving Wink
Let us know what happens ....
Best regards,
Ralph

That is why it is important to know the locality and the sp.
Ahaetulla prasina is known to hunt sometimes fishes, A.mycterizans hunts more fishes, and other Ahaetulla sp. diet is mainly fish.
I got several Pm throughout different forums, most times I identified A. mycterizans, I got an answer that they accept living fishes. I cross the fingers Wink
There are other Users as well, which had the same idea.
I hope they will survive...

I have kept and bred Ahaetulla mycterizans.. The adults as well as the young ate fish.. Just try some fishes with bright collours..and I had a waterdish that was transparant so I laced a white paper beneath it so the fish really would stand out.. They are fast feeders, great hunters, and digest extreemly fast..The one you have is mycterizans

THX guys. For me it was very interesting to see different Ahaetulla and pick out some. There was Ahaetulla prasina with a strip looks very similar to A.mycterizans, but with another head shape. I think the stripe occurs in both sp. I have to look for good papers and books, but unfortunatly there aren´t much.

This is helpful

Yesterday the first fish was taken, after some unsatisfying trials with other fishes.
Force feeding and geckos are not accepted, but within this time the snake lost no weight.

Congratulations, Prof. Dr. med. vet. Dirks *LOL*

For those who cannot understand this title:
Fabian and me were fighting against stupid statements on another forum describing rear fanged like Malpolon monspessulanus as completely harmless for children - we both have been attacked personally and Fabian has been entitled this way. LOL again!

Hi there Fabian. Would it be possible to hear a little more about your experiences with this Ahaetulla species? I am currently looking at either getting the A. mycterizans or the A. prasina but information is very scarce, especially on the A. mycterizan.

Also if it is not too much bother the link you have posted above to the .pdf seems broken, do you know of any newer links to it?

Thank you so much in advance

Regards

Hi Riaan,

both species are really nice and active snakes. If you want to keep them a huge cage is required and beware of feeding. In most cases they only eat lizards and similar, only a few specimen will take rodent or fishes ( I think less than 5 percent ). Another problem is the condition of the snakes, if they arrive. ( Parasites , Dehydrated, ... )
There are only a few keepers who have success and some of them have breeding success, too. The offspring because of size, can make problems ,too.

Please ask for further informations

Hi Riaan...Welcome here !

Fabian is the man to ask for advice when it comes to these animals !Very knowledgeable !

I've been keeping A.nasuta now for around two years with great succes...It did take 18 months plus to get them onto pinks tho.

If you are ever in the Pretoria area just give me a shout if you want to have a look at these amazing animals. They are just about impossible to get hold of here in S.A but dont give up hope haha...

Thank you Fabian. I'm waiting for confirmation here on my side regarding the availability of these. If I can get them I will definitely be asking you some questions if you don't mind.

And thanks Louis, I may very well take you up on that offer, I noticed that you have an awesome variety of snakes, it would be a worthwhile visit.
