| Hi Mikael,
just read the general care informations about Tropidolaeus at this board. there are lots of informations....
and yes, no problem to keep them in groups at all. ill had several dozens of them in big enclosures without having and probs so far. just make sure, you got all from the same locality as there are still lots of confusions about the validity of certain secies and there are many more subspecies as describet right now.
Cheers Mario | |

| Hi, First; i haven't the experiences like Mario has it. But at the beginning of my Tropidolaemus-attitude, I've had two Sumatra-girls in one cage (120x70x100). One year I haven't any problems. But once in a night, one of the two animals make a headbite against the other animal. Fortunately, no consequences for the animal, who was bitten...
Then I read, that Tropidolaemus can show teritoriale behavior... and so it is!
Well, you can hold the animals together without any problems over years. But in the future, I will never hold more than one animal in one cage... still only for breeding-projects of course;)

| I had the luck to work with several hundred Tropidolaemus, from different localities over the years and never whitnessed any territorial behavior with non of them.
important seem to be the way the enclosure is set up. lots of plants and branches "all over the cage" are important. quickly, every animal will find her favorite spot and get somehow "stucked" there, almost never moving at all, for whatever reason. i have fed my animals always with prekilled mice and rats from long tweezers and also here, no problems.
i will take a look if i find some of the picture i was taking (lost tonns of them during a harddrive break-down) and post them...

| Also my animals haven't changed their places for many months... but there are always reasons for moving from time to time. My animals, for example, only defecate into the whater (i have big wather-tanks in my Tropidolaemus-cages). And belive me, my cages are also full with plants and many, many different resting places...
Pictures of enclosures were great. I am always very interested in what else I can do better!

| sorry guys, but I can't find the he general care informations about Tropidolaeus Since lately I keep 1.1 bloodexternal(?) T. wagleri from Sumatra CB. It seems they are not really good drinking at the moment. I water them every day with drops on the nose, but they show no jawmoving to suck the drops. I have no expierience with Tropidolaemus sp.. Maybe it takes some time before they start drinking!? Further on I keep them in in boxes. Day-temperatures 26-28,5°C, at night 23-24°C and they hang directly above a big waterbowl. Lighttime is about 10-12 hours. I water and spray them every day, but I'm not sure If the boxes are well ventilated, how long should the boxes be fogged? I have enough pc-ventilators but I really don't know if it's necessary, don't want them to catch a cold. please let me know if there are any discrepancies, thank you. Greez Jonas | |

| So now I am a bit confused, Thomas Jäkel doesn't say so. Humidity 80% up, temperature 28-32°C. Haired food no problem. Whom shall I trust, Mario? By the way the animals are from Sumatra, Medan. | |

| Thank you Christoph.
Again: It seems they are not really good drinking at the moment. I water them every day with drops on the nose, but they show no jawmoving to suck the drops, they hold on and keep up the head but no moving of the jaw recognizable. After 3-5 min. they avoid and try to get out of the cage.... strange.

| Hi, No worry about that. I've a boy here, who has not drinking for four days... last monday I've tried it again and he was drinking 17(!!) minutes. It's clear; these animals must drinking a lot of water for perfect conditions. But they don't drinking every day such amounts of water. It's important, that this animals are drinking regularly, but it must not be, that they do this every day...
It can also help, if you try to vary the type of spraying. Sometimes they react better on great drops and sometimes they react only, if you spray fine water first.
If someone disagrees, feel free to correct my entry, but these are my experiences...

| Sometimes my females are so sluggish and immobile that I have to give them a few nudges and get there tounge to flicker so I know they are alert then drinking is no problem. As the others have said here the colony method works well with them especially the females, Males are a bit different and very touchy. Dies pretty easy without constant supervision. Best of luck with them! Here are new picks of a couple of my females. [url= ][url= ] |
