Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Hi the experts !!

Just a question about cornuta please:

Did you, or can i keep a cornuta pair in the same terrarium all the year?
Is there a risk like Caudalis?
Did you observe some canibalism attitude or some others inconvenients with those snakes?

Hi.

They have strong feeding responses so I would not.
I'm not saying you are doomed if you do but its really not worth the considerable risk.
I doubt keeping caudalis together is more risky than keeping cornuta together.

They are easy to breed so good luck,

JHP - I keep 2 pairs of cornuta together (1.1 per 1200x600x400 enclosure) year round. I only split them when I see the females are gravid. After she drops and has had a few meals I put them together again.
It is risky though, I have had 2 snakes bite each other before but this was at feeding time and I have since changed my feeding method so this cant happen again.

I believe the risk of cannibalism is higher in caudalis simply because Ive heard it happen far more often than cornuta (once with myself) but maybe this is because caudalis are more common in collections? I have a friend whose female cornuta has eaten many males. Maybe it depends on the individual snake?

Cycle them and then put them together.
If u need more info on breeding them then pm either Rob or myself.
No rocket science with these.

I agree with Rob and I kept all my cornuta the same and never had any problems. The males do tend to go off food for a few months but don’t seem to lose condition; this is normally over the breeding season anyway. The females are gluttons, just be careful with overfeeding. In the wild these would mainly eat lizards and geckos with the odd rodent so I would give them long intervals between feeds on an all rodent diet. Like was said before they are easy to breed. Overall a fairly easy species to keep.

Please put them only together in Springtime! During the mating season. If you keep them together; sooner or later the female with try to eat the male. Even if they are larger! I have seen happen this more times with other small Bitis keepers.

I keep 2.2 Bitis cornuta, and only put the male to the female in March. As soon as they have copulated I seperate them again.

Seperate them, I have had very bad experiences with keeping them together ! I have lost a pregnant female this way, some years ago

This is true. I have had 2 adult (400mm and 450mm) female caudalis in a cage and the smaller tried to eat the larger one. It got 2/3 of the way down and rugurged. The end result was that the smaller one died and the bigger one lived.
