Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Pic of 3 clutches of Boiruna maculata (Clelia occipitolutea) eggs. Eggs in bottom right corner are beginning to collapse prior to hatching. This species breeds readily in captivity.

I've been reproducing these for about 6 years now. The parents are about 1.5 m TL, originally (according to the dealer) from Argentina. They feed on mice, unlike those familiar with Clelia clelia, which are very difficult to switch to mice and feed almost exclusively on snakes. I have had a couple of friends who kept Clelia clelia with great difficulty - including a friend in Canada who brought back a gravid female from Venezuela which had a clutch of 2 dozen eggs, but could not get the babies to feed on mice. There are now a number of people who keep this species in the U,S, including a piebald strain from Uruguay. This species will easily double clutch and even triple clutch within one year. They have clutches of 4-12 eggs +/- which (when incubated at 80-81 F) hatch in about 100 days. A very docile snake (like most Clelia) that only tries to bite when food is near (like many snakes).

Regards

Michael

Hatchlings look like Diadophis species (N.A. Ring necks).

Congrats, we bred these in South Africa this year. 5 eggs for her fist time. I force fed the babies a few times before they would take mice ... Do yours feed immediately on mice ?

Babies are difficult to start. I had begun mine on anolis lizards, but I have also force fed them adult mouse tails. They can be force fed pinks, but because they are a fairly strong snake with a limited gape, it is sometimes difficult to get the pink past the head without problems. I found that mouse tails will easily pass down their throats and will suffice for the first couple of months before they will begin to take dead pinks left overnight within their enclosures. Aftre that - almost as soon as you feed them they digest and defecate extremely fast- like many other streamlined colubrid and elapid snakes.

In the wild, while I believe they are predominately snake and lizard feeders, they even have been noted as taking birds in nests.

Regards,

Michael

Great post Michael, I have a pair of two year olds that I am hoping will be big enough to breed next year.

While I believe multiple paternity has been reported in snakes, I actually observed two male Boiruna (one on each side) mating with one female at the same time. A rare behavior?
