Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Hi,

I have a great interest about zoogeography of the East African Gaboon (Bitis gabonica) and i find this pic on the web:

http://www.savp.co.za/Venomous/slides/Gaboon%20Adder01.jpg

This pic are from David Maguire and i want to know if the specimen ( a lot of orange coloration) on the picture is a specific locality or from selective breeding in captivity ??

Some people here know about that ??

If you have pics of specific localities of EA Gaboon, can you show me on this thread please, it will be appreciated Wink

Thanks!

Marc

Marc - That B. gabonica belongs to a young guy in Johannesburg. It was confiscated from a petshop a few years ago as the petshop owner did not have the necessary permits for gabonica. Only B. rhinocerous can be kept without permits as it is exotic to South Africa. So the history of this snake is unclear. Its a pity as this is possibly the nicest specimen i have ever seen. The reason i know this info is that snake was offered to me but I was not able to transport it back with me. I then had a fallout with the owner and we no longer speak.

Perhaps Gavin Carpenter has an idea as he has Gaboons from various localities.

Amazing! I've never seen one like that, such clean pattern and colors. I want one like that for sure... Laughing

Here are three shots of my 1.1 B. gabonica originating from Tanzania. Not the most recent ones, but I hope you enjoy them. Personally, I really love the patterns & colors of these magnificent individuals.
They are 4-5 years old and the female is around 120cm and about 6kg.
The last shot is of another male that I either sold or my friend has it now, can't remember which scratch

Ok good Very Happy

Christian, you have very nice gabies !!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think the vast majority of captive EA Gaboons come from Tanzania or Uganda... if it right, those are the only african countries who can export legally EA Gaboons ??

I probably never see a pic of EA Gaboons coming from contries of central Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, etc...).

I'm just curious about that...

Thank's

Marc

Hi Marc/ Rob
At a guess I would say that Gaboon is from Zambia. I have seen very similar light colored ones from there and I still think out of all the localities they are the best looking!
That one has obviously been in captivity for a while as it looks very clean.
I love Gabonica and Nasicornis and can never get enough of them, as you well know Rob!!
Cheers
Gavin

So, anyone know someone who'd maybe keep & breed this type of B. gabonica?
It looks so amazing that I'd really like to add a pair to my collection.
