"Getting High Injecting Snake Venom" - A Video

I came across this video today about a man who injects himself with venom for the adrenaline rush, 'youthful appearance', and other experimental health benefits. The man in question carries out these injections without any scientific rationale, but rather doses himself based on an intuitive feeling. Throughout the video he states he doesn't seek medical attention when bitten (only sometimes when pleaded upon by others) and defends the free-handling of his venomous snake. Clearly, not an appropriate person to have in the limelight. Mind you, this video is produced by VICE who no doubt portrays this segment as a form of 'novelty'.

Another lost soul..... Only that this kind of nonsense doesn't do service to our hobby. Oh well, nuts never die out.

Steve Ludwin is a nice guy, and should be free to do what he wants. It is just unfortunate that, with the proliferation of media outlets desperate for something cheap but sensationalisable (is that a real word? If not, it is now...) to film, just about anyone with unorthodox lifestyles and eccentric ideas can get themselves on TV, broadcast entirely non-scientific ideas as fact and misrepresent a much larger group of individuals.

Irrespective of whether he is a nice guy or not, it's stupid. I'm sure there are plenty of nice guys that are heroin and cocaine addicts, but it doesn't make what they do any better.

Sure, everyone is free what to do, but i don't understand why he doesn't keep what he is doing to himself.

He is an attention seeker to be honest. He doesn't need to be making videos showing the stupid things he does, with absolutely no scientific method, his 'experiments' are comparable to that of a primary school child.

Pseudoscience comes to mind...

Maybe he should quit making videos and videos of him free handling, and approach scientific institutions and see if they have an interest in what he is doing. Which they won't because he is injecting himself with 4 different venoms all mixed together. He is stupid in my opinion, and it's not the film company that makes him look that way it's himself.

And to even compare himself to Bill Haast is a joke! It was an occupational hazard for Bill, for Steve it's just trying to look Macho or he can't handle venomous snakes properly and got tagged many times.

I really don't understand why he needs to video these types of things = attention is the only explanation.

Bob, I agree 100%, especially about the part where he compares himself to Bill Haast. That really irked me. Bill Haast was risking his own health in the name of science and in order to help save lives while this guy is nothing more than an attention seeker.

I think the general consensus is that he is an attention seeker and stupid, judging by comments on the internet. The only ones who seem to support him are those in England or those who have some kind of affiliation with him.

It's either he's an attention seeker or he loves the rush of injecting himself with venom, more likely a combination of both. Which is stupid, end of.
