| Hello everybody, yesterday the first clutch of my Acanthophis antarcticus were born. In total it has been 17 juveniles, 14 of them are ok, two were dead, one with a birth defect (heart outside the body and only one eye) and one unfertile egg. The parents are from the Perth-area, WA. This is a portrait of the female: The mating occured at the 08.03. and this is the result. When fresh born, Deathadders look quite dark and colourless. The colouration raises with every shed. A closer look: A portrait: Sadly I´m not able to present any postshed pictures of them until October, as I will be out of home till then. Best regards Frank | |

| Hi Frank, very nice result, congratulation. As we saw adults personally, I have to say they are really stunning... Good luck with babies... What is the place you are leaving for so long? If you don`t mind me to ask Cheers, Peter | |

| Thank you for the congrats to both of you.
@Peter: I will be in Tanzania, doing my fieldwork for my diploma thesis. Hopefully I´m able present some Adenorhinos barbouri-pictures when I´m back. I´m actually not working with this species and I´m not working in their distributionarea, but I will try to visit their habitat for a couple of days, and maybe I´m lucky enough to find one. That would definitely be my personal highlight of the whole journey. During that time most of my snakes are staying outside at some friends and only the unexpensive and easy to keep ones are staying home.
Best regards
Frank | |

| Great Frank! Aussies are so rare here in Europe, in fact I've never seen any in any reptile zoo. Cheers and good luck, Guenter | |

| Hi Frank,
I am curious how are the babys doing? Eating and growing fine, or you have/had any problems?
Cheers! Anze | |

| Hey Anze,
so far the juveniles are doing fine and all of them are feeding by themselfes. Thanks to Michael Bollhorn who cared for them so well during the first three month! A small number of juveniles from another female died in the first weeks, because they were born only half the size compared to the other hatchlings. Such small juveniles are not easy to keep alive during the first few month. When they start to feed reguarly it is mostly able to raise them up.
Best regards
Frank | |
