| Hi to everybody, I've a question about the humidity for asian pitvipers, which should keeping generally at a very high humidity: In two of my larger terrariums, I have built pools with flowing water last month. Now the humidity is almost constant over 90%. (the ventilation is sufficient in my oppinion; large ventilation areas, fans)
Is this good or bad now? Should'nt the cages have such a constant high humidity because of possible respiratory infections or other reasons?
I would be very happy if you give me your experiences...
Thanks a lot chris | |

| HI!
If its bad I cant tell you. In my cages its about 70 % and at night approx. 90 %
Have a look at your snakes - if nothing happens it shoud be ok with the high humanity.

| I would say that it should not be a problem if your terrarium is well ventilated. But if you have such a high humidity the hole year it might have a bad influence on breeding as some species need a drier season and a wet season to trigger sexual activity.
Cheers

| HI! Humanity or humidity - whats the difference? At breeding-season you can put the snakes at other cages for a while. Then put them together again in your high humidity-terrarium. Regards, Rene | |

| Hey Christoph!
High humidity for long periods of time can lead to mold and fungus, consequently respiratory problems for your animals... It depends pretty much on how good is your ventilation. First sign of a stagnant environment is mold, so keep an eye on it.
hope it helps | |

| Okay, now i have some answers, thank you guys!
The thing with bad influence on breeding , I did not think. That can be a problem. Mold and fungus I haven't found at this time, but on next weekend I will further fan installed. If then the humidity is still always high, I will be include even greater ventilation areas.
cheers chris

| just one more thing, since you're planing to put a fan on the cage, in my experience, a low air flow from the bottom works better than from the top (keeps the substrate aerated). | |

| Hi, In one of the two cages is a fan on the top. The fan put the air out of the cage. So i will install the other fans in the near of the bottom. The fans running all 6 hours for one minute. In the other terrarium I try to install the fans at the same way.

| good morning to everybody here are the pics you want in the first terrarium is a wagleri-female: in this cage is a purpureomaculatus-female at this time. this cage is more than 1 1 / 2 years preparing for T. alboviridis (negros), which I unfortunately still have not received... of course, the higher "pool" of water and the pipes will be overgrown with plants. And The branches will be replaced by lianas soon. greetings chris | |

| Hey Chris!
Thanks for the pictures, I really like your set ups! The "higher pool" is a very good idea! Do you use any kind of filtration for the water or just a pump? I'm doing something similar in some of my cages, will take some pictures when it's ready. btw, beautiful animals!

| Hi Eduardo, I use Eheim-Filters: Eheim2032. The higher pool was necessary because the filter requires an increased filter inlet-position.
Pictures would be great!
