| I was offered a group of these beautiful, facinating snakes. Offcourse i culdnt say no to the "false viper" I keep them at low temp.. half cage moist and lots of big leafs to hide in. They are verry active and and are feed twice a week due to high matabolism. Hope you enjoy!

| Don´t get bitten. Some scientist call Macropisthodon spec. as the next level rear-fanged. They have flexibel fangs and they seems to have a very strong venom. I really enjoy them , but they are not in my collection. I even like M. flaviceps and Macropisthodon rhodomelas I know a report where a Macopisthodon bite caused respiratory problems.

Maybe I can use your picture for my site?

| I did some rekon and found verry little on them... for obvious resons! But i found information saying they have verry potent venom so getting bitten is not an option Some of them are verry keen on biting while some are calm and not that aggresive. In any case this is as venomus as ill go for now.. taking the "long walk" to the moor heavy venomus snakes. Hehe.. You can use my pictures.. Any one in perticular or all three? Howdy Caroline | |

| That is about the only information i got on them, it came from that site.. Now.. i feed my snakes live frogs no i have no intention trying to force feed them as he did.. ! And since i keep a larger goup it gives me some room to experiment a little bit.. I keep diary and close monitoring and really feel like i culd manage to keep them. At least i really really hope so.. They are amazing snakes! Not by any chance have you stumbled upon some Usefull information on Cyclophiops major? Thanks Alot / Caroline | |

| [..] http://www.waza.org/conservation/247_Ziegler.pdf
the specimen (Fig. 10) was collected throughout daytime on the ground of primary limestone forest at an altitude of about 400 m above sea level. Characteristic features. One loreal, eight supralabials (4-5 in contact with the eye), 15 scales across the midbody, 169 ventral scales, anal divided, and 76 divided subcaudal scales (determination followed Bourret, 1936b, who lists the species as Liopeltis m. major).
There you will find something about sea level and habitat. I will look for more.

| Having worked and lived in China for the past 11 years I am lucking to get my hands on lots of interesting snakes here. Usually non-vemonous but some times I end ones that are...
I recently bought a Macropisthodon rudis but I seem to get conflicting answers from experts on whether he is venomous or not. Can some one confirm?
Also I cant get him to eat and given the weather here now, I cant find the common frogs to feed him. I tried a rat pup with no luck. Also a bought a bull frog and cut it up , but again no luck.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. | |

http://www.rear-fanged.com/macropisthodon.html They have the fangs and probably the toxin to produce serious bites A personal account of envenomation by a blue-necked keelback, Macropisthodon rhodomelas (Boie) (Reptilia: Squamata: Natricidae). R. Subaraj. Pp. 109–111Because of old literature, they are decribed being harmless ( like any other colubrid ) | |

| Hallo Dayton! I am sorry to have missed your post. How is your Macropisthodon rudis doing? Pinki mice wont do verry good.. although it is possible to trick the snake into taking the pinki. I have done this myself, but i have noticed that in some cases the snake's has problems digesting it. (no matter temperature.) A bullfrog cutt in pieces (yack ) sounds promising. Macros reacts strongly to movement so yet again it is possible to trick the snake into eating. Use a piece of the bullfrog and make it look like it is hopping inside the cage like a live frog, or "swim" it around in the waterbowl as though it was a tadpole or a fish. It might work. You shuld avoid force feeding at any cost! In the process.. dont get bitten. Bites are said to be nasty.. yes they have venom. Let me know how its going! Caroline | |
