Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Subject: Montivipera wagneri breeding.... Sun 17 Jan - 15:23
A few years ago I acquired some baby Montivipera wagneri from Peter Pastor.
I raised them to adult and last year I put them in my fridge for 2 months at about 5 degrees.
The female subsequently gave me 4.4 healthy babies.
Here they are mating in September, about 2 weeks after coming out the fridge.
It was quite funny how the female dragged the male around the cage for hours. here is a video to see...
Then on Christmas eve i received a nice gift...
After they shed..
All babies are big and taking pinks no problem. I LOVE this species.
The Montivipera raddei is gravid too and i will post here when she gives birth soon.
Thanks for looking

Thanks for the comments everybody.
Euro Vipers are not very popular in South Africa and i don't understand why. They are beautiful animals with many have an interesting natural history. My favorite are the different color forms of ammodytes (Scutari, ruffoi) and the kaznakovi complex (dinniki, orlovi, etc). I have scutari and ruffoi and I plan to get the kaznakovi complex soon and hopefully breed them one day.

Hi Craig, These are fantastic photos of superb animals. I aquired a pair of wagneri from a European show last October. The female has just shed, so I did a ventral scale count, and it was 151. According to True Vipers, by Mallow, Ludwig and Nilson, wagneri have a ventral count of 161-170. Have you counted your adults ventral scales? I was wondering if these could be albizona. Cheers, Brian.

Cool
I have 1.3 but my male is too young to breed. I need an adult male xanthina for breeding loan or for sale ASAP.

I have 2.1 xanthina, and I have the opposite problem to you Yasin, my oldest male is at breeding size, but my female isn`t, it`s a shame you do not live closer. Cheers, Brian.

I think that Yasin and Brian have to check localitys and other information that might be of interest, just to see if there is a good idea to start a little "Eurobreeding" by tossing the whole lot i a cage and wait..
If that mix is ok.. Maybe wait for about 3 years, and then talk to Are here..

Hi Miqe and Yasin, I would love to start breeding programmes for all the Montivipera species. Due to over collection for the pet trade, restricted distribution, hunting and environmental factors, this genus is under real threat in the wild. It is my dream to specialise in this genus in the future. I have now, 2.1 xanthina, 1.1 raddei, and 1.1 wagneri, and I am going to try and get a couple of more species this year and try to breed from them. Cheers, Brian.

Great idea Brian. If they become more available as CB, than it should reduce the amount of wild caught specimens in theory. Good luck with this.

James

Hi Yasin, My smaller male was born 07/11/2008 amd is approximately 65cm long. My larger male came into the UK " illegally" in a shipment of slate which docked at Felixtow, and was found by H,M Customs and Excise, who took it to the West Midlands Safari Park. They knew I was looking for xanthina, so they gave it to me. It is approximately 85 cm long. I would say it is about two years old. I do not know where the shipment came from, so I do not know it`s location. It is light grey with completely black blotches, no yellow or olive in the zig-zags. Cheers, Brian.
Hi James, Yes, this is the idea, Cheers, Brian.

My "Antalyas" are, hopefully, then about 3 years old and we will see how the things goes on ... if we are lucky we have few new xantinas to "eurobreeding" group ...

Brian I can really use the 85 cm male on a breeding loan. I have 3 females ready to go. Care to land him to me for a while in exchange for some of the possible babies?

Hi Yasin, I am hoping to pick up a couple of xanthinas at the Hamm or Houten shows in a month or so, if I don`t get a big enough female we will have to get your females and my male together. I also hope to get bulgardaghica at one of the shows. I will keep you posted. Cheers, Brian.
