| Hello
i have an adult Atheris squamigera female since a few day she obens her mouth, especially when i spray water. I think its a light lung inflammation (or something like that) she eats and her behavior otherwise is normal.
Is there anything i can do against is? Raise the temperature?
thanks Michael | |

| Hello Michael,
I think you should not raise the moisture level at first! The open mouth breathing or throath puffing may be caused by Pseudomonas bacteria in respitatory organs and too much moisture and lack of proper ventilation usually makes it worse. You should check your cage ventilation first and only spray your squamigera only around 1-2 times weekly, of course depending of ventilation. Also, a little bit higher overall temperatures and stress free environment could help the situation.
Regards, Ilkka | |

| Hello, iim agree with Ilkka, moist is problematic in atheris squamigera especially... Keep the terarium dry (bowls of water is possible to squamigera) and vitamin C is very helpfull in this problems... Im also hits with pseudomonas bakteria in my squamigera and this time no problems.. Good luck... | |

| Good luck, Michael. I hope she pulls through for you. I would also suggest keeping her very dry since that may help limit how the bacteria spreads. I'm surprised that your vet had to test the resistance. I thought that treating pseudomonas was pretty cut and dry with amikacin. Maybe it's a new culture or I'm just wrong? I've never had that particular bacteria, so I'm probably just wrong. | |

| The result from the resistance test was that baytril will be the best against this kind of pseudomonas. Yesterday was the 7. day i gave her this medicine (injection). Now it looks much better! i hope she will survive. | |

| My experience is that Marbocyl is better-toleratet than Baytril, but obviously it helps and thats the main point. An maybe they've tested it already. Good luck further on! | |

You'll have the opportunity to take pictures of my squamigeras in a few days, Guenter. You'll need your macro lenses, they're cb. 2009. Cheers Peter | |
