Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

I think it is sad that people post animals and have to explain the poor or bad quality of photos. Working and breeding snakes is more important than a good photo. To all the photo critics, chill out because this is a venomous forum not a photography forum. Don't apologize for your photos be proud in what you have as I have said this is a venomous forum. Thank you again

Hi Jason! I think you are also referring to my pictures of the mating dessert massasaugas of mine. So I will give you my opinion.

1st: I enjoy keeping snakes
2nd: I enjoy breeding snakes
3rd: I enjoy photographing snakes

If this was a photography forum I wouldn't post the pictures of my mating edwardsi. In my opinion it aren't really good pictures. But this forum is about venomous snakes so the pictures of my mating edwardsi I would LOVE to share with you guys.

Photography is a big part of my hobby, and I try to make the best pictures as I can. But if I am in a hurry or want my new animals to calm down and I can take a fast picture of something I really would like to show to you guys, than I am more than happy to share them. But when I have enough time to make pictures than all the bad ones disappear in the thrashcan Laughing

If someone not really cares about good pictures than thats fine with me. If I can see some nice animals I am really happy. But if someone does care about sharing good pictures than you make me little bit more happy Smile

But you are right, in the first place it is just about sharing pictures or out beloved animals Wink

Your Massasaugas breeding was awesome to see and I understand you like, along with others, taking good photos. But interupting snakes breeding to get that GREAT shot is not worth disturbing the animals and taking a chance on them separating. I think your photos where fine and showcasing your animals breeding was excellent! I just go back to my first post and remember someone asking me to take photos that the animals deserve, well giving them great husbandry is way more important than getting that photo that satisfies the photographers. I also have read other post with "sorry about the pics" and I'm also guilty of it too. I just had to remind myself that if a photo isn't that great that I take, then so be it. I'm a snake breeder and collector not a photographer nor do I care to be. I just don't want to see people afraid of posting their animals and getting blasted for the quality of pictures. Just my 2 cents. Like you, I love to see pics of snakes good photos or not I just love animals more than humans.

Jason, You are absolutely right: the animals should always have the priority. And I can't remember that at any time somebody here criticized the quality of someones photos. In fact most of us always like to see photos of snakes, no matter of what "quality" the takes are.

So I do not really understand the purpose of this thread ... I hope it was not a hidden beat against photographers (and in my case "hobby-snakekeepers" Wink

And: Sorry for my bad English (hope this won't feed the need for a new thread now ...) Very Happy

Hi

I can't remember anyone criticize a low-quality picture on the venomland?
Yes, some people on other boards are doing this, but here?

I totally agree with Günter, but nobody can tell me that he does not like to look at a good photography work ;-)

Greetings

Hi,
I guess sometimes people apologize for their photos if they usually show very high quality photos and the photo shown, isn´t one of them in their opinion.
So for a photography forum they wouldn´t show it at all but here they show it because they think it might be interesting for some people here because the audience here isn´t to much intereseted in quality than seeing some interesting animals.

Sure, but I am also pleased to see interesting shots of matings, rare snakes, etc. which have of course more documentary than art character. I think that is what most of us would say, or am I completely wrong?

Hey now a days phones have pretty good cameras. My droid has 5 mp. Thats more than enough for me it also records up to 4 hours of continuious video. I was critizied on another forum that is dead now for taking pics with my camera phone. My animals live for many many years some considerably longer than expected and this is because I dont screw with them or take them out and manuver them around and seriously stress them out which in the case of arboreals leads to an abrupt and usually expensive death.

Guenter, my post was in no way a beat towards photographers or you. I have seen some of your Elapid photos and they look nice.

I just love animals more than humans
