Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

I wouldn't want to be bitten by one of these either; their teeth have the bad habit of breaking off and staying almost flush with the skin until removed with tweezers. Infection is always possible.

Nice ! ive always wanted an emerald tree boa, do they thrive in captivity, i heard theyre difficult to breed, Ralph's emerald seems to be doing great!.
Perhaps Ralph Tummers or even April can elaborate some on their care in captivity.

Very interesting, thanks for posting Ralph.

I never tried breeding this species, and the one and only C. caninus I had was relatively easy to maintain with the exception of feeding, which was best accomplished at night, several hours after the lights went out. The room where my snakes were kept had a red light for night time use, and I'd feed various species between 1 and 3 am. I'd also spray the cage once each week, at night, to ensure hydration, first, drops of water were taken from the snake's body, then it would move around and drink from the water dish.

Typical humidity was probably 40%-50%, whatever it was in the room, same with temperature, room temp. was, on average, 65-80 degrees. There was a hot spot or heat lamp in the cage.

As long as I tried to feed this species after dark and everything was quiet and the snake alert, fresh killed rodents were enthusiastically taken from long tongs. This was a truly violent act, and the rat would be hit so hard that on one occasion streaks of blood from the rat were strewn across the ceiling! Feeding was never accomplished during day or evening.

I had been warned about the long teeth which would break off in someone's arm or hand if bitten, and I always handled this species with a hook, never my hands.

Thanks for that April, i was debating to purchase the book Stolen Worlds so i went to youtube and pulled it up looks decent , theres a pick of one of the main character, Old Hank Molt on there with an emerald tree boa in the background at his office, looks different than Ralphs whats up with that.

No need to anwser if it's out of your scope, still great info!

Cheers Al.

I enjoyed the book, in part because I know most of the people on a personal level, and I found it entertaining. The picture of Hank shows him wearing a name badge, it may have been taken at one of the reptile shows.

I'm no authority on Emerald Tree Boas, but they vary throughout their range in terms of temperament, pattern, and coloration. Some populations are green with white markings, some are green with blue markings, some striped length-wise, some striped cross-wise.

Really April , seems you can write a book on just that species alone , never knew they were so variable .

Well on a subject that i am familiar with, Palm Pitvipers , seems that on YouTube it shows him posing with what seems to be an endangered Bothriechis rowleyi it's a black and white caption in the trailer of Stolen Worlds.

Thanks for the update , April .

till then Al.
