Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

So I was staying at my dads house last night and I get home today and my mom and her bf are looking at me weird...and i'm just like... what?
They tell me they had something for me last night but I didn't come home so it was still on the counter... I went to see it and this is what I found Diadophis punctatus punctatus
Cute comes in tiny packages!! Sotiny

That little tupper ware thing is about the size of a jello cup

It's so freaking tiny!!! XD Apparently they found him doing gardening work and actually held onto the little thing for me... he's like..hardly even 4 inches...

So... the hard part...I am very tempted to hold onto this little one but... I know ring necks are difficult in general and this one is so fricken tiny i doubt if he could even eat a wax worm or baby cricket but he's just so cute and tiny!!! So I will try a few different things I think.. if he doesn't eat something within 4 days I will let him go in the yard

They are extremely hard to keep alive, and get feeding because they feed on other snakes you would have to get some baby garters for him but he is very cool.

Yeah that is what I have heard most people have been successful with... worms for the most part and other small soft bodied insects as well as minnows. However I have heard some theories of Southern subspecies like this one (Diadophis punctatus punctatus) will develop a taste for reptiles however that does not necessarily mean snakes and baby lizards should suffice

He seems to be doing well so far, I replaced his temporary substrates with more natural substrates from the area where he was found, it's full of all sorts of little insects and worms that he should be able to eat. The problem is that I have no way of knowing whether he is actually eating or not but since putting in natural soil and leaf litter I have noticed the little guy being much more inquisitive and active at night and in the early morning when he should be. For the time being I am taking this as a good sign.
Any ideas on how I might be able to tell if he is eating or not?

For having control try and put food items (for this method earthworms or tadpoles) into a little bowl (with or without water, as needed) where they cannot get out but he can get in and out. If the climate in the terrarium is fitting, the prey should survive. This technique of course will hardly work with small lizards, frogs or salamanders.

Good luck with that guy,

Rainer

Keep an eye out for excriment. Thats a good sign, but you have to look hard to see it.

I have had success by feeding them greenhouse frogs. I would put them in a small container and leave them with it overnight. I have been told they love salamanders but I have yet to see one in the wild??

hello, a friend of mine found one a few weeks ago, a little more bigger than this, I´m planning to release him or her, but weather had been very hard this past days, so like he is eating a lot of baby crickets and eartworms, he has shed a couple of times, so I think is the best way to know hes been eating, probably I´ll sethim free next rainy season, I´ll post picturees soon
