| Hi Patrick,
I would say yes, definately. She looks exactly the same as both my female Naja kaouthia did last year when gravid. I see she is also lying with the back half of her body under the heat source, another positive sign!
cheers,
Tom | |

| Hi Patrick,
Have you tried palpating her ventral side ? I've never seen a gravid Elapid but in Colubrids, in advanced pregnancy, if you just tail a snake and look at it, the individual eggs should be quite clear on her ventral side and you don't even have to palpate...
Anyway, I hope she is pregnant and I hope you have a nice healthy clutch and babies !

| well - congrats, Patrick!
very short incubation period - 48 days (or actually 1 - 2 days less if we take in account that they remain a while in their shells after cutting off) - is that right? What temperatures did you use? Very interesting - i never managed to get Najas out before 63 - 65 days....as you wrote you'd have to wait until the end of February - i even would have expended that to the beginning of March.
best regards Peter | |

| Hello Peter,
this was the first time i incubate kouthia eggs, so i looked at the schedule from the book of Günther Köhler - "Inkubation von Reptilieneiern", which says 48-56 days with temeratures at 29-30 degrees celsius. But my main projects is to breed reticulated pythons so i put the eggs into the incubator for my retic eggs, which is at 30-32 degree celsius. In periods of some days i looked at the eggs and they seem to be good. So I thought this must be the right parameters for incubation. Now i know it´s ok.
Thanks Peter.

Last year my 2 Naja kaouthia clutches started hatching out at 47 days and 50 days. These were also incubated at 29-30C

| Congrats Patrick,
Good looking hatchlings. My first clutch of kaouthia this year have only been incubating for 20 days, so I have a while to go.
Peter Z: Last year my 2 clutches of kaouthia hatched out in 64 and 65 days, as you stated is your experience, and I incubated at 26.6 - 27.2 C.

| That is great brother! The one looks to have some abberant markings? My clutch was laid a day before yours I have been incubating around 28.8c - 30.0c I am expecting some pipping in the next week or so. I have my fingers crossed for a good success rate with the 13 eggs in there now. Congrats with a great clutch! Joe | |
