| Awful! And quite impossible to imagine that this could be done in a civilized country. In fact it is not. Japanese were kicked from medieval to modern time and IMHO did not manage to cope with it until now. Maybe some will now tell me this statement is politically incorrect but I won't give a shit on that as they won't care about our concerns about killing whales, snakes and so on. | |

| As a matter of principle, I never wish a bad snakebite on anyone. I think I may just have found someone for whom I would be prepared to make an exception. | |

| Hello Wolfgang,
that´s my way of thinking too. The pity is that there is not only one person for this exception.

| These snake liquors might be used as impotence drug, Guenter. As far as i understand it, Kelly is trying to tell these people that Viagra will be more effective. regards Peter | |

| What is the point of even posting such a link? We know that these atrocities occur world wide. The more "hits" this video receives, the more likely someone is to post another one! Those that do this kind of thing do not care what we think. | |

| I don't think that posting the link and clicking the video will increase the amount of snake-liquors produced. As these bottles are sold to tourists too, some of'em could refuse to buy and support these cruelties if they know how it's done.... regards Peter

Dear Scotty, call me stupid but until I found this video, I had no idea they do such cruel things with snakes still alive. Peter

I couldn't agree more. It disgusts that people persecute and exploit things they don't understand... or things they can make a profit from. When will some more modern thinking take control of this part of the planet? Pickled snakes will NOT improve your health... neither will tiger bones or rhinocerous hornes. Disgraceful.

| Of course, that sucks ... i was also shocked as i saw it live ....,in China. Many snakes gone in a big bowl ,for a customer and even some "expensive" ones . An acutus is not a cheap snake to make a snake vine with ,in nature they are not common anymore . Many of them where used for tradicional medicine and gone into death like this . It´s strange ,but just an traditional way ,used since 1000 of years . The snakevine is an medical treatment against back and bone pain. I don´t like killing snakes in such a way ,they should live in wild ...or even at a place where a collector can keep em ,like it should be . But noone will change the situation and the mind of old traditional "stuff", Greets Ralph

| Tradition or not - no argument. Burning red haired women as witches was also a tradition centuries ago. Someone has to tell this stoneagers that we live in the 21st century now. | |

Peter, I had no intention to call you or anyone else "stupid" "Snake wine", aphrodisiac tiger bones, dancing bears, dog fighting, rattlesnake round ups ... you get the picture, has been perpetuated by "civilized" man for hundreds maybe thousands of years and I thought this was common knowledge world wide. My point is to stop giving it any publicity. If people don't know about snake brandy, perhaps they would be less inclined to look for and purchase a bottle as a "cool" souvenier next time they visit the Orient. I actually had a work colleague bring me a bottle a few years ago on return from Tokyo. He was quite offended when I refused to accept it!

| I was in a store in Chinatown in Toronto this past weekend buying tea and I saw a stack of dried Tokay Geckos in a display case.
When I asked what they were for, the lady told me that you put them in a wine with ginseng and a few other herbs and let it soak for a few months. When I asked her what benefit it was supposed to have, she hesitated as if she didn't really know the answer, then she simply said "It's to make you strong."
Even the West isn't safe from this way of thinking. I'm grateful at least that it wasn't an endangered species in that store, but it's still unacceptable.

| There was a guide book prepared by the United States Navy in the 1960's describing venomous snakes of the world, and it speaks of, "Mamushi Whiskey," a concoction possibly, "more toxic then the snake that went into its manufacture!"
40 years later, it appears on YouTube!
