Part of Eclectus , Natural history, shows some form of role reversal between the male and the female parent where the female builds the nest and feeds the chicks , while the male sits on the eggs.
The male soon tires of this activity and leaves the nest unguarded ect,.

Oscar Wilde , Poet and armatuer ornithologist, wrote while at Oxford : While it is nobel and fitting for a female to adapt male characteristics , the same does not apply vise versa.

What is the source of information for your post? Everything I've read, heard, or seen, indicates the hen takes an active role in caring for the eggs, while the male protects the nest and continues to feed the hen. Typically, the male is not permitted inside the nest box once the eggs are laid, and no, the male is not permitted to sit on the eggs. I'm not referring to incompatible pairs or problems caused by stress or environmental disturbances in captive breedings.

In nature, the process is the same, with the female raising the chicks, beginning with hatching the eggs. Typically, there is no role reversal with compatible Eclectus pairs.

"Eclectus Parrots", By Katy McElroy, published by Barrons is an excellent, basic, manual with a chapter on breeding.

It isn't a question of being outdated, it's the inaccuracy that's troublesome.

Typical behavior is the male not entering the nest box. Sometimes, the male will enter the nest box, but usually not. The reason is fear, yet, if the male enters the nest box, he learns that there is nothing to be afraid of, and sometimes the male helps out.

Typical behavior is the male not sitting on the eggs. Rarely, the male will sit on the eggs.

The best source of typical behavior is the natural habitat, not in a rescue center where many heavily stressed animals are maintained. When posting a message on this website, I confine my responses to typical behavior from relevant sources. If a particular behavior is observed 10% of the time, I do not include it as typical behavior, and if a particular behavior is observed on rare occasions from stressed specimens, I do not include it as typical behavior either.

My Eclectus, Ginger, is fond of Cheerios. This is not typical Eclectus behavior. In nature, Eclectus do not eat breakfast cereal. If I were to write an article on Eclectus diet, I would speak of fruits and vegetables; I would not include breakfast cereal.

Great picture. Froot Loops would have been hilarious. Give that bird a job!

Eclectus cannot digest dairy products, so I only share my Cheerios with Ginger once a month or so although I'll sometimes give them to her without milk.

Ginger also likes Jello and apple sauce-she prefers the cinnamon flavored.

Froot Loops have a dye which can dull the feathers. Some commercial bird pellets have the same dye.

WARNING!
Neither Jello, Cheerios or apple sauce are found in trees, and are NOT part of a natural diet.
