Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

@Nigel: No i have never had any feeding problems with Vipera or Montivipera babies.
If you give them much heat and a humid place they all will have started to eat by them self with in 3 weeks.

Or at least that has always worked a 100% for me.

Congratulations Daniel!
I've bred them regularly in the past and some babies were reluctant to start feeding.
Some clutches were easy, other took some time. Same with Montivipera's.
Some localities are specialized in an other foodsource then rodents, and those can be a bit harder as well. Good to hear yours are good starters!

Good luck with these little beauties.

Cheers,
Harold

@Walter: No not at the moment.

For temps i have about 25 degrees celsius at the cool side and about 40 degrees celsius right under the hotspot.

At night it drops to about 18-20 degrees celsius on late spring and summer. Winter and autumn it is a couple degrees colder at night.

I spray them down 3 times a week and they often starts to drink then. I keep a waterbowl inside the cage that i have never seen them use. Humidity is the same as the room about 55-60% when they are "unsprayed" Laughing

Hi Daniel thanks to answer!

Cool i m glad to hear that from you ! Maybe in the future is possible to me to buy some of these to you ( If that will ever be on sale!!)
I m volunteer in a research project at university. It implies collecting several organisms with some degree of venoumous capabilities, since fish, scorpions, salamanders to snakes. The only snakes ones we re interested are Macroprotodon cucullatus, Mlpodon monspessulanus amd Vipera latastei. There is also Vipera seoanei but this is much more scarce and localized than the previous, besides is a little beyond our "routine" geographic range, seoanei is in west - northern portugal , and we are in the south near Lisbon. Last week we had the last field search for snakes this year, now just for March we ll begin again. The purpose is collecting in situ the venoum ( to vipers) and in laboratory to the other two cause its more complicated and they are released soon at the same place were they were retrieved. I have never saw a lataste in these short expeditions. The only live latastei i ever saw was when i was about 10 years ago , but i remember very well a great beautiful adult, the zig zags stripes and the bluish shades. These bluish colors almost a metalic blue ( probably because the sun reflections ) was something that is craved in my memory , i saw lots of photos in the net and the closest i ever found was some pictures identified as the subspecies latastei gaditana.

Here in Portugal unfortunately these vipers are becoming further scarce otherwise ignorant people seems to thrive, the average person will not hesitate to kill it if they cross their way. Many are hunted cut the heads to sold as talismans, so you can imagine the poverty of the medieval mentality that endures around here!
Hope you continue to breed it successfully, congratilations again for these beautiful baby vipers?
Just two questions! What is their captivity average lifespan? What is the price they are sold ? And i supose is seldom sold!!

Regards

It is sad to hear about such behaviors, but it is the same here in Sweden. Maybe not that much but it still happens. One would think that the modern man of today would know better Mad
