Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Yesterday was the time I was able to collect my couple of ammodytes. They are CB 2011 from Montenegro - Skutari lake.
I have so much fun with my V.aspis I hope the ammodytes will be the same.
Sadly they´re both a bit pale at the moment. As I visit them the first time the female had a nice yellow and the male a bright orange. So I´m looking forward for the next shed and be excited about the colors after.

I took a first few pictures:

If it´s wrong here the admins can feel free to copy it at the photosection.

Does anybody know here about inheritance at V. ammodytes? Is it like corns depending on Mendel?
I know the parents, the female is bright yellow and the male is dark red. He is the most beautiful V. ammodytes I´ve seen to date. They breed yellow, orange and red siblings.
Not that I´m interested at making new morphs, like corn or python breeders but it would be interesting to know if it is possible that my ones have perhaps heterozygous predispositions.

Hello Tanja,

it is depending on Mendel´s rules but....

It´s not just red or orange or..., as their color is not depending on just one certain gene. If you have a - let´s say - red V.ammod. and you don´t know the ancestors, you can get any color that is possible in that population among its offspring.
I bred Skutari - bright red X bright red (wc) - first generation: a few red ones, the rest: Any color.

If you breed their red offspring you get a higher percentage of red ones in the litters with every generation, from 3rd, 4th generation on (depending on the ancestors of the first breeding pair) yo get mainly but rarely only red ones.

This makes it more interesting, doesn´t it?

I wish you much fun with these beauties and luck in breeding them later,
Rainer

Thanks for the answer. I see this could be very interesting. So I´m looking forward to breed them in some years. And perhaps I breed a nice little red one as beauty as his grandfather too.

"And perhaps I breed a nice little red one as beauty as his grandfather too." - The chances are very good, they probably carry his genes.
And your pair will become more colorful with time, you can look forward to that. Keep us updated please.

They were more colorful too as I visit them last year. I think they came to shed in near time.

I will make new pictures after the next shed

Hello Tanja,

that looks very promising. A nice guy that will probably get more orange later.

Rainer
