Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

As the topic states, I'm getting an adult Aspidelaps l. cowlesi in two weeks. Any tips or tricks with keeping them or things to keep an eye out for? This will be my first elapid, but have years of experience with many other venomous species. ive read about every post about these snakes I could find. Just wondering if anything else could be added. Ill post pics as soon as I pick her up!

Just remember that these little snakes have a 'big snake' attitude. Expect lots of mock striking and high levels of aggression. Attempting to restrain these animals can be a challenge (especially with squirmy juveniles).

All in all they're probably the best first elapid you can get your hands on as far as safety goes, but you still should be careful.

Agree with Luke. I keep A.scutatus intermedius and A.lubricus, all of them are still aggressive as the day they arrived. They never lose their attitude. They are great little elapids and very enjoyable to work with.
Also, their strike range is very farther than you think it is, so watch out.
Enjoy them man.

I started with A. l. cowlesi as my first venomous snake about a year ago and for me this worked out fine so far.
I have 1 female, and 1 male. The female is very easy and relaxed, the male is probably the son of Lucifer himself. Rolling Eyes

The behaviour is different as wel. The male is almost always hidden until he smells he is getting food. The female is quite active. What I really like, and which you should give your snake at least is a good layer of (reptile)sand for them to dig their own tunnel system. Re-arange the enclose, in probably 10 minutes they will start digging it again while there are 2 different hidingplaces in the inclosure. They seem to like it much.

I feed them several small preys at each feedingtime. They have small heads, and they seem to have more trouble with big preys which should be right for them in weight terms. For instance: A fuzzy is max size prey for the female to eat is in a normal timespan, but she can easely eat 2 or 3 fuzzy's at once without being overfed. I look at her growth as wel, if she slows down in growth, or gets fatter I'll reduce the amount of prey of course.

On the hook they are very different as well. The female is always relaxed, the male is a somewhat more difficult to handle. So..... in conclusion: Some can be very easy in care, some are not.
