Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Atheris squamigera refuses to eat Empty
PostSubject: Atheris squamigera refuses to eat   Atheris squamigera refuses to eat Icon_minitimeSat 20 Oct - 16:50

Hello everybody,

I have some problems with one of my atheris squamigera.
I'm keeping 1.1 of them and they are about 1,5 years old.

The male is feeding very well and he is really voracious.

But the female makes me a little bit worried.

Every time when i try to offer a pinky mouse to her, she turns away her head.
I have tried many ways to make her eat:

- Feeding inside the Terrarium
- Feeding inside a plastik box and leaving her alone there with the mouse overnight.
- Feeding at nighttime
- Feeding at daytime
- Feeding at the glatt floor (This one worked one time...)

Every time i try to make her bite into the mouse by tapping the mouse against the atheris' mouth, body and tail for a long time. Without any success.

Two times i forced feed her, because she got more and more slim.

She is behaving normally except that she refuses to eat.

Does anybody have some advice for me.

Best regards!

Philipp

Hey Philipp,

did you try to make her bite into a frozen thawed mouse, which you put in hot water, so that it has a higher temperature than normally? In Pitvipers this works very well and as there are signs of some type of heating sensory in different vipers as well, this might work. Is your female flicking the tongue when you force her to bite? Maybe it can work to rub the mouse against a frog to use the smell of the frog. A friend of mine is feeding his juvenile Atheris sp. on fish, maybe your female loves it too. I hope this helps.

Best regards

Frank

Hi Frank,

yes, i used frozed mice, thawing them in hot water.
Today, just before i posted in this forum i tried it again.

Her brother took it agressively, like always.

Trying with the first mouse on the female, the water and the mouse temperature was higher than normally.

But she refused it, so that i decided to force her to eat, again.

After a while, the water and the mice got colder, but nothing changed. She didn't bite inside the mouse. (I feed her on the floor, because this worked one time before.)

She dosn't flick the tongue. She just seems to be uninteressed.

Thank you for the advice: I will try fish and frog aroma the next time!

Best regards

Philipp
