| Hello, first of I really don't know where to post this topic so. sorry if it's in a wrong place! I'm in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh and i caught a snake, I think his still a baby... I don't know! here is a picture of the snake: I've searched the web about snakes in saudi arabia but not really sure if this is venomous or is this the one called "oriental carpet viper"? Thanks every one! | |

| if you think it's a baby, the color pattern may also suggest the arabian/mediterrenean cat snake (telescopus fallax) which is rear-fanged and mildly venomous.
you might as well take a picture of the head. please do it carefully.

| Kinda strange, the scales scream echis to me, but the head is kinda throwing me off a little bit, maybe just the angle. All of the T. fallax I've seen have a large, dark blotch on the nape of their neck, but I'm not especially familiar with that species, actually I'm not really familiar with a lot of the colubrids in that area though | |

| Yes Rainer is right, it is Spalerosophis diadema cliffordi, I have one too. They're opistoglyph and their aspect may reminds vipers because they have not big head scales (especially on the posterior half) like the major part of colubrids, but have many and smaller ones like viperids... the coloration of this subspecies can deceive too. This is mine | |

| Hello Ivan,
concerning the names and terms: Spalerosophis diadema (Diadem snake or Camel snake) is the species, cliffordi is the subspecies occuring in Saudi Arabia and further west, other subspecies in more eastern parts of the species´s range.
They usually take small mice and can grow quite quickly. Those I kept never tried to bite me.
Good luck with that fellow, Rainer | |

| Nice pictures Ivan! Great find there. Yes, as was stated earlier be cautious when herping where you live. You may not see Echis carinatus/Saw Scaled Viper, because it blends well with it's surroundings and is extremely haemotoxic/hemotoxic.
