Please beware, to register at venomland you are requested to use your full name (first and family name) - nicknames are not allowed and will be not activated! thx Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

| Hi everyone!
I got a question for you guys:
As some of you may know, there are different regulations for every province in austria for keeping venomous animals. In my case (i'm living in carinthia) it is forbidden to keep venomous animals at all (except for zoos and as far as I know for so called "pet shops"; sorry i don't know the correct word for "Zoofachhandlung"/"Reptilienfachhandel")
Now to my question, I graduated at a business school and with the graduation i got the permission to run my own business. So if I would open my own business (pet shop or something like that), would I be allowed to keep venomous snakes or not? Of course the business would only be a thing on paper, nothing serious. Just as alibi for getting the permission to keep hots. Is this possible? Or are there other things I have to consider?
Martin

| You will need a specific education to run a petshop anyway. I don't think that will work with an "alibi-business", otherwise more people would try that. You're not the first one coming up with such ideas..... | |

| Like Peter wrote, you are not the first.
Here in Germany, some People from other ,,provinces´´ (Bundesländer), was thinking on the same. But there are a lot more regulations for ,,Buisiness Hot-Sellers´´ than for Hobby keepers. The reasons to make this wasn´t only the regulations for keeping hots. This people was thinking to save some money wile they will make something with the tax, than the costs of electrisity and food for there snakes was very high. The officials are not stupid, so this way isn´t easy like you think. On the other Hand, in a buisiness you have to make a profit, when not - after some years this buisiness will closed! Why? It will be considered as a hobby. (here in Germany it can be this way, I don´t know the laws in Austria, but mabye they are similar)

| First of all, thanks for the answers! Of course I know that I would need a specific education for a petshop but I think that would not be the "big problem". - Peter van Issem wrote:

But let me explain my plan: A snake/hotroom (with seperate entrance and everything what a hotroom needs) This would also be the "business room", where I could sell animals (not only hots, also non venomous snakes and spiders) Of course everybody could come to visit (for example in the evening or by arrangement, or on saturday or whenever... not thought about that yet) And of course you could buy animals there (I thought only about cb animals by myself, nothing else and if there are no cbs, there would be nothing to sell except food and some deco or stuff like that) And all this would be my own business and like a second source of income (i know not much income ) beside a normal job So I would have my own business and the costs could be coverd by me as a private person. So theoretical it should work? or not?

| Cannot imagine that it could work in an Austrian State where venomous snakes in private posession are stricctly prohibited by law. Where should your customers come from? | |

I really don't know if this could work... that's why i'm asking. Reason for this is, that i saw an website of a reptile shop in villach (cannot find website again) about one year ago. They offered some non venomous snakes and in the "webshop" they also had some venomous (Bothrops or something) but in the description was "nicht zu verkaufen/not for sale". I think they did or are doing the same what I want to do. Thats how i came to that idea. So the customers should come from all over austria (I think if you want something badly, you will be willing to drive a few hours, even if you have to drive to carinthia )

| I'm not familar with austrian law's and special not with restrictions in Carinthia. But when this ,,web shop'' has this venomous offered as ,,not for sale'' can this considered as displaying like a Zoo or as a snake from his private collection and this can/will touch the Law?!
I'm not sure all about, but I can't belive that this way will work. When yes - congratulation! But, were are all the others they has had this idee before...

| Just forget it! No way at all in Carinthia. Have a look at the existing laws and regulations - "Tierschutzgesetz-Zoo- und Gewerbeverordnung"! They just won't let you do it this way. | |
