| Hello Nigel,
yes, you are right, they are beauties.
Could you see any difference in color of the belly/sides or how far the red color extends to the sides and additionally whether they have light or black snouts, depending on location where the snakes come from?
Thanks for posting and best regards,
Rainer | |

| Thanks Rainer, the first 7 pics are of snakes from Victoria with the black nose. Their red on their sides has dulled over the years (going 5 to 6 years now) but look their best after a shed. The next 2 pics are of a animal from New South Wales with a bronze coloured nose, the red is more intense in this animal. The pics of the hatcho (I have 2 of these, black nose) are from Victoria & the pic of the hatcho from Steve Davis with bronze nose I'm not sure the locale of the parents. The amount of red seems to be the same with all these animals but the NSW one is a darker red than the others. Don't know if keeping them outdoors makes any difference to the red "fading" but all in all a truly lovely species i am lucky to keep. Have 2.3 adults & 0.0.3 juvie/2yrs olds at the moment & with alot of mating activity happening in the outdoor pit at this time this total hopefully will increase-can never have too many Red Belly Blacks! Cheers. | |

| Hi Nigel,
thank you very much for detailed answer.
I wish you much success coming from the mating activity not only from your P. porphy. but also your other snakes,

| Good job, an outside pit is an original idea, it looks great. Your Pseudechis should feel good in it | |

| Hello Nigel, nice to see you back here again. I have been to Australia several times (only NSW and ACT as my brothers in law live there). I could find lots of snakes and other reptiles there but though I especially was out for Pseud. porphy., I never saw any of them in nature until last year. In October 2015 I could find, watch and take photos of 4 of them in one morning about 30km. southwest of Canberra. Beauties, seeing them would have made the whole trip a succes if it wouldn´t already have been marvelous anyway.
Cheers, Rainer | |
