Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Hi guys,

Looking into getting my first cobra. It will be my first elapid. The only venomous snakes I have are kept rattlers and Copperheads. So I want to make the right choice for my first elapid. I have narrowed it down to Naja Siamensis, Naja naja or Naja Pallida. What do you think of these three as first cobras? Thanks.

first of al, try to find a person how has Naja sp. (and a lot of experians with them) and go there to learn from him/her and to watch how cobra's behave an move.

that will help you to understand this genus and if you are aloud to work with them you can concider if you are actually ready, because Agkistrodon and Crotalus are complitly different compaird to Naja's.

N. siamensis can realy be a handfull and they spit
N. naja grows realy big, maybe to big for a first cobra
N. pallida, a spitter but most of them I have seen where not to bad.

Al cobra's of all species can differ so much that it wil come down to your ability to deal with the worst case.
My advice, look up a realy defensive cobra (N. samarensis for example), look at it for an hour or so and think about it if you realy want something like that in your house for caretaking.

This is my opinion, but others may think different.
So it would be nice too hear from more people.
But there has bin a lot of writting about this subject, so take your time and read a lot in the cobra thread Wink

I'd get a non spitting baby and learn it as it grows. They can be quite intimidating with the hooding, hissing, and charging but if you have a proper hot room with decent amount of space to evade an aggressive, fast attack you should be ok. It would also be a good idea to get your hands on like 10 vials of the appropriate antivenin. Most importantly enjoy Smile it would not be good if you got a snake you didn't enjoy.

Thanks for your replies. Still cant make up my mind lol I have also been looking at Aspidelaps lubricus as from what Ive read make a good first elapid.
