Hello Venomland !
This is a post from a few years ago but still interesting ...
We had a long weekend here in SA so I headed into the bush to see what I could find , I ended up finding some really interesting snakes that I had never come across before .. All in all , had an amazing time !!
Did not want to come back home , here are some pics..
Some shots of the locations where I found snakes during the night , I gps'd the locations , then returned during the day to get the Habbitat Shots.
Bitis Caudalis Habitat....
Elapsoidia sundevalli habitat
Bitis Caudalis habitat
Aspidelaps scutatus habitat
The first Snake I found was a big surprise , it was d.o.r but belly up and at first I thought it was a night adder , flipped it over and was very surprised , Baby elapsoidea ! Fantastic !
This was an awesome find but the next snake was even better , adult Elapsoidia longicauda !!!
I ended up on the night with 6 elapsoidea !! these snakes are seldom seen and to see so many was puzzling ...
Next up was this scutatus ...
Here are some other finds from that evening..
This snake was alive when I found him but was hit really bad , he was dead by morning ...
Telescopus semiannulatus
This next guy was super tiny!! I'm surprised I saw it , he was crossing the road at 3 in the morning and the temperature was 22'c at the time ...
Never seen one before !! I had to be careful it was not a actractaspis. looked very similar..
Quil snouted Snake
This next guy was beautiful , somewhat resembling a Kenyan Sand Boa..
Blind Snake --- sp??
Got some house snakes as well which I had never seen before in this location , they are patternless with the white under belly coloring extending further up the body , really nice !!.. different
