Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Hi,
For some time, I thought about buying Dendroaspis Viridis, beautiful are as green emeralds. Even I found really beautiful individual. But I have a question concerning breeding. They are more aggressive Dendroaspis polylepis and what create the best conditions in the terrarium, humidity, etc. Has anyone had problems with feeding ?. I read a lot, not only online but would read hints, tips about this species from people who have or have had dealing with Dendroaspis Viridis. Thank you.
Regards.

No problems so far with Dendroaspis viridis - not even with wc specimens.
They're not more aggressive than polylepis, maybe a bit more nervous.

Thank you Peter. From what I read, it was attacked as a last resort, preferring to escape. And what should be the optimal humidity in the terrarium?

I must declare that i do not measure humidity in my Dendroaspis cages - i see and feel it if it's okay or not.
The D. viridis have a shower almost daily - and the plants in their cage and a partially moist soil on the bottom keep humidity up. I increase the showers during shedding, and during mating time, which takes usually place in December/January.

Hello Rafal,

Mr.Zürcher is right, almost no experienced keeper measures the humidity in her/his cages.I think that after a few years experience with a species, you will got this feeling what humidity is right for your animal. Sometimes after the years go by you will make perhaps some mistakes...if you are serious interested in your Hobby you will learn from this mistakes...sometimes studying your snake will offer you more informations about it, than using some wrong advices from the www.

Regards

D. viridis are easy to keep but not easy to breed, in my experience. We had several pairs in the past ten years. While some bred readily, others refused to, under the exactly same conditions. Guess there must be some sort of match that we do not yet understand. Moreover, I agree with the others that these snakes are nervous but not aggressive, and that humidity does not seem to be an issue (unless they are kept really dry). Foodwise, they some to prefer chicken over rats but do take rats if nothing else is offered.

Hi Peter, Niko, Klaus,
Thank you for your posts. I have read it carefully, I also found some interesting information on the Internet. From what I see, it normally accept food and, indeed, is quite nervous but does not shoot. In a terrarium I made its substrate with an average humidity. It also sprayed with water terrarium but it also has a dry place where they can hide. In the terrarium I keep humidity in the range of 50 to 70%. I think that is enough, it also has a small pool so maybe there cool. But I guess I will not have problems with it. If they appear, they will certainly write. Thank you for the tips.
Regards.
