Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Hi everyone! My name is Annie and I am from Charlotte, North Carolina. I don't currently own any snakes, but I am hoping to learn the ropes of herping in the field and viewing the wonderful species of Crotalus and Agkistrodon that my state has to offer.

I joined the forum after a decent amount of lurking and I am very excited to finally have others to share my enthusiasm with. I am so jealous of those of you that are experienced keepers and have a collection of your own. I am hoping that I can find a mentor or friend at some point that is experienced and can teach me the ins and outs of venomous snake keeping so that one day I may keep my own.

I have been interested in venomous snakes almost my entire life, and growing up in rural southeast North Carolina, I was lucky enough to encounter Crotalus Horridus in my own yard, and I even got to watch two Agkistrodon Contortrix mating from my front porch.

Hi Annie!
Jealous? Some members including myself are surely jealous of you with Rattlesnakes and Copperheads visiting your yard.
Welcome and have fun here!
regards
Peter

Thanks, Peter! Unfortunately, I now live in the city so there aren't any beasties in my yard these days. My family still lives in rural southeast North Carolina, and I have read that Crotalus adamanteus can be found there, so I am hoping to do some herping this summer and come across one of these beauties. I can't imagine anything more exciting that coming across a huge Eastern Diamondback and getting a video and pictures to share with you guys. Smile

Hello Annie,
welcome here and I wish you luck in finding "your" big C. adamanteus. I can tell you that even if they are not really big, they are impressive.

Best regards,
Rainer

Why keep anything if you can observe herps in the wild (rhetorical, so no question mark). Enjoy the in situ herping.

Although I know it was rhetorical, I would be more interested in keeping nonindigenous species. Although, it seems more likely that without a mentor or any opportunity to gain hands-on experience, I will stick to viewing the few endemic species in my area. As much as I would love to have my own collection, I am absolutely inexperienced and am not in any position to own venomous snakes and handle them safely.

Hi Annie
Welcome, I'm sure many of us can vouch that all it takes is your first snake and next thing you know is you have a whole room full of amazing snakes that will keep you occupied for hours on end. Enjoy them and study them as much as you can.
Regards
Chris
