| Great to see that somewhere the vipers are waking up! I hate to live here up north and always wait the vipers come out from their hibernation "nests".. Perhaps I'll go outside at the end of next month Sami | |

| Even here in the "south" - I live in southeastern Austria, close to the Slovenian border - there are no reptiles out at the moment. About 2m of snow on most V. berus habitat, V. ammodytes will come out in 5 - 6 weeks if spring will be normal.
So, Sami, don´t mind too much about living in the north.
Best regards, Rainer | |

| A week ago it was about 6 degrees celsius and cloudy weather. I hoped for a little sun, but it didn't come so I've found nothing. Yesterday I went out in the field again and the weather was much better. Some clouds, but the sun came thrue from time to time. It was about 9 degrees celsius. I've found 3 adders. Their body temperatures ranged from 17,4 to 19,8 degrees celsius. So close to the optimum. The snakes looked very well. They weren't skinny at all. Cold winters, like this season in Holland, are good for hibernating adders. They do not lose a lot of weight at such a low metabolism. I'm curious if all snakes we'll inspect comming weeks are better looking as former years too. Cheers, Harold | |

| Nice image Harold. This had been a nice cold winter in England so I hope the berus are in good condition this year. | |

| I found my first adders yesterday.. In a place just 750 meters from work, at a spot I´ve seen from my car along the way to work. Decided to take a look, but didn´t expect to actually find anything. Did find 3 V. berus in 20 minutes, 2 in the same spot and another one just 25 meters from the first ones. Joy and happiness!! Here´s a couple of pictures.. | |

| Welcome Peter Two weeks ago I went out to my sites in grey cloudy cold weather and saw eight berus and two natrix. Earlier this week I returned on a glorious sunny day at about 13-14c and saw three berus , very odd | |
