Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

In the 1996 publication(entitled): 'Coral Snakes of the Americas, Biology, Identifications, and Venom', by Janis Roze(Krieger Publishing, ISBN#: 0-89464-847-0); Micrurus surinamensis is said to have large venom yields, up to 108 mg from specimens over one meter in length(pps: 101-102). Roze also states(on pp: 102) that: 'Silva(1994)found that the most toxic venom is that of M. surinamensis(LD50= 0.41 ug/gr)'. The longest specimen reported by Silva(1994)is 1350 mm long, adding(that) 'Many adults measure between 600 and 900 mm'. (Silva Haad J. J. 1994. 'Los micrurus de la Amazonia colombiana. Biologia y toxicologia experimental de sus venenos'. Colombia Amazonica, 7(1-2): 41- 138.). By the way, great photograph, Mr. Carleton. Sincerely, Jon Davidson . Writer's edit: Correction: Roze's citation of Silva's LD50... is on page 102, not on page 221 as originally posted( M. surinamensis is covered on pps: 221- 223.).

Jon, thanks for that completely interesting.

Peter im insuniating that more people succumb to untreated Lachesis stenophrys envenomation in Costa Rica than rice farmers in the Phillipines do from untreated Naja phillipinesis accidental envenomations .

2) Micrurus Surinamensis, Ld 50 compared to Notechis Scutatus, Naja Phillipinensis. * We can go with Jon's reference at face value for now if you wish.

if you will , have patience with us newbies .

Hang on there , Jon, im getting some where with all this, with comparatives im trying to make a point about the toxicity and venom yield of Micrurus Surinamensis, if you could paraphrase all the examples i gave and put them in a structured paragraph i would appreciate that.

Instead of asking others to speak on your behalf, Mr. Montejo; I would suggest that you endeavour to construct your own paragraphs in a coherent manner. Sincerely, Jon Davidson .

I don't remember ever seeing a specimen of Micrurus sp. from Central or South America. Are they present in any public collections in either the US or Europe?

April,

I can post a photo of a Micrurus alleni later when I'm home:)

I'm not sure about any captives. Maybe others know more about captives than me. I like to observe them in the wild!

Nice snake.. even if it is dead!

I know English isn't the first language for some of you however reading this I am starting to doubt my own abilities to read it. Albert J. Montejo I have to say you make very little sense. You make out to be a experienced professional from what I can gather however there are a huge amount of mistakes in your posts, what's the deal?

Thank you, Owen. Yes it was unfortunately dead. It was only dead for probably minutes. Too bad for the snake. But safer for me to pose for a photo:)
