| Ahem ... I do so - but how telling my wife ... And of course with two small children, hots are always a critical thing, because at the moment my snakes reside in our living room | |

| You are correct Stefan. Squams are by far my favorite, and I will definitely be getting more. | |

| Very nice Jon. I love squams and will hopefully get one soon. They are kind of hard to find though. I've been looking at every Hamburg PA show and have seen very few. I mostly see them when I have already spent my money or didn't bring enough to the show. My guess is, the latter will happen tomarrow at the expo. Very nice, and nice looking photo. | |

| Yes Derek, it's a male. He turned a year old in January so I'm definitly looking for a female. I really want to breed this species in the future. | |

| Sorry Jon, I'm not the brightest person in the world. I just put two and two together after realizing your name and location. Sorry I didn't recognize you. | |

| How venomous are they really? I mean, I know there is no antivenin for those but how dangerous is a bite? | |

| From what I've read, squamigera possesses a strong hemotoxic venom and human fatalities have been recorded. | |

| The venom is much stronger than popularly believed a few years ago. When I first got into them, I was told that the venom was weak and the bite was very minor. I know three people firsthand who've been bitten by squams and they did not have life-threatening symptoms. One guy was bitten TWICE on two separate ocassions (wish I could check their IQ's before selling to them) and he had almost no reaction the first time, which probably lead to the second bite happening much easier. The second bite was much more serious, but still not life threatening. There are deaths recorded, however, and there have been at least two very serious Atheris envenomations that I have heard firsthand accounts of in the US in the past few years where the bites were life threatening. So the venom is nothing to wink at, especially considering that there is no specific A/V. | |

| Thanks Jon & Derek. Are squams rather calm in captivity? Just my curiousity ... I have no plans for hots at the moment. | |
