| ...I could breed this wonderfull species. 2 weeks earlier than I thought the female get nervous and creep through her cage. On Monday morning then I saw that her entry of her box was locked/closed by moss. So I took a look into by my camera. Here are some pics: | |

| Lucky you!!! Was it expected? Have you seen that the female was ''pregnant'' (fatter as usual) or is it a surprise??? | |

| Yes it was expected. I´ve put the pair together in the middle of January. In the first night I think they´ve paired. In the last weeks I´ve seen that she was getting little bit fatter. But because she skinned only 2 weeks ago I thougt that I´ll have 1-2 weeks. | |

| Thanks Carsten Aggressive would be a nice change actually haha. Except for the 3 big Kings, most of my 60+ Cobras are not really all that aggressive. Sure most do stand and hood, especially N. sumatrana and N. oxiana. They are big show offs, and they do lunge at me, but with mouth closed most of the time.

| Yes maybe this could be a nice change. I think that there exists calm Samar´s, too. But the most Samar´s I heard about has been/are aggressive. My adults are very shy and lay the most time in her hidding places but if they are "on Tour" and they see me in the Room they stand up, make a hood and strike sometimes with a open mouth against the glass. The hatchlings of the last year are a bit calmer. They are not so shy and are relaxed if you stay in front of the terrarium. BUT if you open it or want to handle them...they flip arround like a spiral spring. By the way...I´ve been on your site and must say that you have a nice collection Especially the sumatrana and the kings looks pretty nice. | |

I've been buying a lot lately, and I don't see it slowing in the future, haha. I had a nice collection a little over 2 years ago, but sold many of them, and just kept the more rare/favorites. Now I wish I had kept everything and not started breeding Cornsnakes. Now, most all the Cornsnakes are being sold, so I can concentrate on the Cobras. I have started importing with a buddy, and he has contacts all over Africa and Asia, and they have people out looking for the Naja species I still need in my collection. I reckon you can not get N. mandalayensis and N. sagittifera, but his contacts are looking for everything else. The N. sumatrana always stand up, hiss, and strike at you, but only two of them have actually spit on me. The adult female has spit on me one time since 11/14/01 when I got her. She spits at me all the time when I pass her cage, but it only hits the inside of the glass. My CB'07 male or female N. sumatrana spit on me one time also. It's strange that they spit all the time, when you pass by their cage, but rarely if ever spit when they can actually hit you. It's probably just a reaction to something all of a sudden disturbing the light entering their cage. The N.ossambica and N. nubiae, on the other hand spray me as soon as I open their cage, and continue to spit as long as the cage is open or they are out of the cage. My N. sumatrana female should be laying her eggs before the end of the month. They may be the only venomous eggs I get this year. I did not see my N. oxiana breed, and she doesn't look gravid now, but maybe they did breed. I'm still keeping them together. I'm picking up a young adult female Suphan on April 13. I'll put her in with my male and see what happens, but I may have to wait until next year.

| The samarensis don´t spit so much. The female I don´t have see her spit ever. The male spit if he´s very pissed off (he´s pissed of fast ). The hatchlings spit only sometimes if I open the terrarium and have to handle them. But usually they want to escape. If the little one´s spit it´s a very fine mist/fog. The only other spitter I keep are N. nigricollis (the black ones). At the first time they have been really shy and spit very fast. Now they are relaxed and don´t spit so fast. Some months ago I surprised/shocked one and he spit the whole Front full. Regarding the Suphans...my breeding pair has paired in the last years at every Time of the year... February, May, September, November, December I would try it if she is not to small. | |

| You guys in Europe always have such nice caging. Do you have nice setups like that for all your snakes, and if so, how many snakes do you have in your collection?
My spitters always seem to spray the glass just as soon as I clean it and place them back in the cage, lol.
Thanks, That's good to know about the Suphans. Maybe I will get some eggs if this new female is in fact a female.

| That´s a little bit off-topic but I hope that´s ok... Yes I have such setups for all of my snakes. At the moment I have round about 30 snakes and 20 cages. I think in the US the caging is a little bit different and many keeps there snakes in racks or?! These are some actual pics of some of the cages: Naja nigricollis http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_3030326134316132.jpg Part of Naja kaouthia Cage http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_6165333339633665.jpg Daboia russelii http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_3831653839633534.jpg Bitis nasicornis http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_6534313931386434.jpg If somebody is interested...this is a link with pics of my snakes and setups... http://www.arcor.de/palb/thumbs_public.jsp?catID=20&albumID=3055554 - Quote :

He he...this Problem I don´t have. But my snakes like to "shit" in her water bowl only 5 minutes AFTER I´ve clean it I think...our snakes cannot see it, that we don´t have anything to do and are bored... I wish you best that your Suphans will mate. I´ve made the experience that they mate soon when I separate them for some days Mist the cage a little bit more She is freshly skinned I clean up the cage and put in some new "dekoration"

| They are nice cages. I have one big cage for a Malay King, 1.2m x 3.65m, but I have never finished it, with decorations I mean. The new female Malay King is in there now.
I have the same problem with snakes shitting in their water bowls, haha. And, yes mine also seem to do it right after I give them fresh water.
I talked to the guy with the female Suphan just now. He would like to meet me tomorrow, instead of this coming Monday, so i will go get the female Suphan from him tomorrow.
I will keep them together except when feeding, and I mist cages when trying to get snakes to breed.
Thanks for the info Carsten.
