Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

I`m interested more for snakes who need semi&high humidity.

Hi Alex,

I keep cobras in wooden cages with glass fronts. The round plastic ventilation holes are situated on the sides of the cages.

Even though the cages appear well ventilated, I was finding an ammonia smell building up which concerned me. To help with moving air through the cages I have connected 12v computer fans to one ventilation hole per cage.

These go on for a specified time in the morning and evening to move some fresh air into the cage and any ammonia build up out.

It works very well, although may affect humidity and heat levels depending on the outside environment.

Cheers.
Brett

In some of my cages, I have a computer fan .
In fact, i put in inside the cage, in front of a ceramic lamp.
It's really good to diffuse the hot inside the cage. I have good temperatures 2 hours after that start and i have a good gradient. In fact i use this systeme for a large cage for an pantherophis obsoletus lindheimri leucistique. For me it's a really good option, and that give to me a good airflow. like in this cage.(the fan is in on top of right in the front)

at the top of right, I have 29°C and to the left bottom, i have 24.5°C

I could try to take picture tomorrow , inside the cage if you want!

Sorry, I don't have pictures, but I'll try to explain anyway.

For my B. schlegelii, I drilled a few 2cm wide holes into the 1/2 inch melamine wood on the top of the enclosure, then I stapled some metal screen over the holes. I took another piece of wood the same size as the top of the enclosure, with holes drilled in the same spots and I attached it on top.

The end result is two pieces of wood with holes in them, and a layer of wire screen in between. This way, I have no chance of being bitten by placing my hands on the screen because there's 1/2 an inch of separaion on both sides of the screen.

I painted the insides of the holes with waterproof bathroom paint so the moisture doesn't get into the wood.

@ Thierry Grey: nice work ! Cool

I would like to share you my experience as well...
This is how ventilation works good for me.
First a drawing of the roof from outside, so a view on top of the cage:

As you can see I work with computer fans too. These electric tools are located in one corner
in front of the cage. Connect it to an adapter... You see a switch, so you can choose how hard the fan must run.

Then just drill a hole in the roof and stick the fan on top of it. This is forcing the air in to the enclosure.
The fan is running from time to time, so not constantly...
Cover the inside of the hole with gauze so the snake can't slip away or get wounded.

The second picture shows one of my enclosures while I was constructing it.
You see the inside of the roof and this is the way the air flows... There is movement true the whole cage
and air doesn't stagnate.

Hope this will help you a bit...

Gr.,
Pascal.
