| Atropoides has all the good sides of a venomous snake in captivity, and almost none of the drawbacks. It is not insanely venomous, good eater, has the looks, not impossible to breed in captivity, does not demand lots of light and heat, and does not require enormous terrarium. Yet, it has character, what it lacks in venom, it replaces with jackhammer biting strength, and they look like Lachesis. SOLD! | |

| I have to agree with all that has been said so far, I have had a pair for the past four years and they are the most undemanding, evenly tempered snakes you could wish for. They look great as well, thanks for the excellent photos eveybody. Cheers, Brian. | |

| How can I put this right without being misunderstood ? It is said that this species is not the most venomous snake of the world, but you should treat them like they are ! This goes for every venomous snake... The venom causes major bleeding, destroying muscle tissue and blood clothing.

I know that I'm just interested in the venom of snakes. As I said before I'm not in a rush to get a venomous snake. I could if I wanted to. Sadly in Bulgaria when you have money you can get anything you want.

| The resulting bite is powerful, the sheer mechanical damage will F#ck your hand up. Like this would not be enough, the animal does "chewing" motions while engagin the prey, so no matter how less potent the venom might be, you will get plenty of it not to mention the torn tissue wich offers ideal conditions for bacterial infection. I've seen the mouse's eyes nearly popping out and the critter going flat by the strike.
Atropoides is a potentional booby-trap snake.

That's O.K., Martin... But I'm trying to express myself in a careful way... You may know, someone else doesn't. Just fill in 'Atropoides' at Google and see what the results are. There are more people who can read... But it's good thing that you're not in hurry !

Atropoides is a potentional booby-trap snake. Yes, just watching at how the mouse is bitten and chewed down is plain scary. They are like bulldog vipers, and the holes that the fangs open in the prey are more than impressive.

| ...and after the (hopefully) release off the bite-pressure, there's a lot of room in those wholes for blood to come out. It is truly a mini-bushmaster, what comes to his reach, is his. | |
