Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

No not commonly like that. Unless it comes from way up north IE Limpopo or North West province where they do look similar to that. But even then I would call that a very nice specimen.

Lets just say its a remarkable SA Puff adder? I will try show you some photos of others from Limpopo province which look similar to the female you pictured.
I would assume the seller has no reason to lie so consider yourself fortunate Wink

I would agree with Rob. How big is the snake as those colors are really bright? It is unusual, but some babies are quite bright.
Cheers

Hi Stephan,

I have arietans that are from SA, at least I was told that. They are beautiful snakes and I never question the origin too much. The male has a lot of yellow, but they are both beautiful. I got them as babies in 2004 and now they are still under 1m long - around 80cm each. The female had 2 clutches - one in 2006 and one in 2008, with 22 babies in 2006 and 31 babies in 2008. Interestingly enough in both clutches 5 babies were scaleless which I was not too happy about but people asked for them like crazy! :-)

The yellow one in your 4th pic is certainly not from South Africa. PERHAPS the other one is but I will say the same thing which I said to Stephan, if it is then you are lucky.

There were some scaleless Puff adders kept locally, perhaps they came from South Africa but if you traced them back further you might find they came from Tanzania or somewhere similar.

I just found some more photos of them. In 2006 I manage to catch a female giving birth so I manage to take some pics. Among them I cough a few babies taking their first breath! :-)) cute little bastards! :-))

HI Rob,
when I got them in 2004 I did not realy care where exactly they came from. I was told they are from SA and that they will not grow as big. I can varify for 100% that at least the second statement is correct! :-) Interestingly enough as babies in 2004 when I got them they were very similar in coloration. When they were appx 2 yearrs old the male started to be more yellow. I will try to find some baby photos...

Great looking Puffs. The colors are awesome and the pattern is striking.
I like those scaleless ones as well, they look so strange.
