| Congrats Carsten,
Samarensis seem to be like Sumatrana in the number of eggs they lay. My Sumatran female is quite a bit smaller than my oldest B&W Spitter female. The Sumatran has laid 4 - 7 eggs, and the B&W lays 20 - 21 on average, but the Sumatran eggs are about 2.5 times as big. Too bad we can't get more eggs out of these two beautiful species.

| @Randy Yeah thats a little bit bad that they only lay so few eggs. But I don´t want to complain...rather some few eggs as no eggs Ok...now all (5) are out of their eggs. One pipped the egg but don´t come out and die. When they´ve shed I´ll make some nicer pics (macros). http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_6638663264646636.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_3865343232623763.jpg http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/81/796081/1280_3839333165633939.jpg | |

| Congratulation Carsten!!! Babies look very nice and well. You are right, better few as none, especially in cases when we wouldn`t anyhow able get more eggs as mother nature wants!!! All the best, Peter P. | |

| Good job Carsten. I had some Cornsnakes pip, then go back in and not come out and die in the egg. Now, with the advice of a friend, when I see an egg has pipped, I cut the egg open more with a small, angled scissor, in a big X or +, end to end and side to side on the egg, so when the baby goes back in the egg, it's easier for them to find their way back out again.
Of course you have to be very careful, but with angled scissor, it's easy to keep the part of the scissor that is inside the egg, right up under the shell, so you do not cut the baby.

| Congrats Carsten, what's the pendent for "green thumb" in breeding snakes instead of raising plants? Guess you'd be the one whose whole hand was completely green colouored | |

| After some weeks here is a little update. The little one´s are doing gorgeous. They eat little mices and gets a little bit more calm. But if you want to handel them they jump like a spring through the boxes. Until now...I don´t have seen them spitting.

| Hi all, They are fantastic pictures of great snakes, I have a question, I did not think samarensis were true spitters? All the best, Brian. | |

| Hello Brian, they spit definitely - But one of the experiences I made, they never spitted when they were out of the cages. They seem to go steady on protecting theirselfs through spitting.

| Hi all, Thanks for that Jorg, I was always under the impression that they were not true spitters. Do you know if their fangs are modified for spitting like the spitters of Africa? All the best, Brian. | |

| Hi Brian,
as Jörg already told Naja samarensis is a true spitter.
Maybe this pdf could be interesting for you. Here you can find some more information.

| Hi Carsten!
Could you please tell me how you got your samarensis copulating? Did you change the climatic conditions???? Is there a difference of size between your male and your femelle or any other differences???
Thank you for your reply

| Hi Kevin,
that was not so a big problem. Over the year I keep them separated. In February/March I put the male to the female. In the months before I spray a little bit less with water. Some weeks before I put them together I spray daily in the whole cage. The size of both is identic. The temperature is in the winter months some degrees (~4) lower as in the summer.
