| Not at all - she was still about 10cm away, enough for this little snake | |

| How big was the specimen in question? I would think 4 inches is within her strike range, especially with her coiled up like that. | |

| Very small, maybe about 20-25cm? You should take into account that my lens is about 15cm too and to get to my hands is thus not as likely as to make it to the front lens. Anyway, it was definitely controlled then. | |

| @Alex Wether me nor Guenter are playing hazardous games during our photo sessions - everything we do has been (and will ever be) on the safe side. As owner of these animals i am co-responsible for his safety, and i would never let somebody go into unsafe or uncontrolled situations. Beside this, Guenter isn't just a (outstanding) photographer - he has a very realistic imagination of behaviour and striking distance of these snakes.
Best regards Peter

| Thanks Peter! To underline this: the Atheris did not make a single attempt to strike during all the shootings. A snake always seems to know when distance is to wide for a strike. It kept on its branch, interested but without much movement. An easy snake to photograph | |

Ah, of course you're using a professional lens. Why wouldn't you be? *headdesk* I understand you're not taking huge risks, it's just that from my perspective being that close takes more cajones than any normal person has. My hat is off to you.

| Hi Alex, Thanks. As Mr. Zürcher once said: "At our snakeshootings the most risky part is driving the car to get to the shooting." I subscribe this. We always take the risks out of the shootings rather completely. | |

| Judging situations by nonattendents has ever been difficult, if not impossible, isn't it, Alex? | |

Indeed. Risk or no risk, wonderful pictures of truly spectacular animals. Which is rather the point of this thread, ne?

| @Wolfgang
Don't know where Guenter took this shot -due to the bright colors i guess in the bigger one of 2 angusticeps-cages?
According to the importer/seller it should be from Tanzania then. I do not know if that's reliable or not- the same importer has been offering Naja (haje) arabica from a Sinai-locality *LOL* Do you have a special reason to ask?
The nicgricincta picture is incredible indeed - it's been a lucky day - first to have Guenter here and second to have these two guys presenting itself that way.
@Guenter Best nigricincta shot seen so far! Thank you so much! Wow!
Best regards Peter | |

| Wolfgang, could You explain to a beginner, HOW You can see the location from just a headshot of a mamba? I would really be keen to know. This is very impressive to me. | |

I would really be keen to know. This is very impressive to me. No, I can't explain it - something really subtle about the scales, but I cannot even explain it to myself ;-)
