| Currently, my crown jewel: a female Tropidolaemus subannulatus (maculatus) from Western Borneo. Shots of the two males... *Erroneous labels* not wagleri but subannulatus (Borneo morph) I'm hoping to breed them once I get some info on how to best introduce them; prime breeding season etc. Cheers and best regards AA | |

| Thanks guys, I acquired her from a rural village in the interior of Western Borneo close to the Kalimantan border in early September... she looks quite old though... from what I can tell. | |

| The female looks incredible, I do not know much about this species, is it a dimorphism?Or why looks the female different to the males?

Yes Fabian for many years it was not possible to pair Tropidolaemus ( Trimeresurus as they were then) as no one realised the dimorphism any imported males were probably sold as some other Trimeresurus species due to thier retaining juvenile colouration and only attaining half the size of females fortunately a lot more is known about them now. fantastic specimens Alexander more photo's please?

| to add - Alexander does subannulatus have the same placid temperament as wagleri? and I'm guessing the Gonoysoma in the background is far worse! | |

T. subannulatus is a step more feisty than T. wagleri... though I've read that this Borneo morph has potential for distinct speciation from T. subannulatus as T. maculatus based on the latest Tropidolaemus review. I've kept the molts in hopes of posting them to any keen researchers for DNA analysis in comparison with specimens of T. subsnnulatus from Mindanao to ascertain their phylogenical relationship.. hint any takers? ...as for the Gonyosoma... what I find intriguing is the hypothesis of defensive mimicry with regards to the coloration and the behavior... it would seem that this colubrid is a Cryptelytrops mimic. | |

| Alexander, Absolutely stunning snakes. Got to say they are the best looking Trops I have seen to date. I look forward to hearing if you manage to breed these in future.
Also I would be obliged if you could forward me(PM) any papers or info you might have in regards the re-classification of the current T.sub group.
Thanks in advance.

| Hello Alexander,
firstly I would like to say congratulation ! Its always nice to see the genus Tropidolaemus mating in captivity. The female looks great, especially like its coloration.Do You know the exact locality of Yours ? Did You drop temperature to stimulate the mating? I will cross my fingers for it !
Kind regards, Radovan | |

| Yes, Radovan you're right... mating occurred after an acute drop in temperature.... the female was un-receptive prior to that. As for the locality; all 3 were caught within the same locale in Western Borneo close to the border between Sarawak and Kalimantan... why do you ask? | |

| Hey Alexander,
very nice animals and cage setting, I like the "natural way" a lot. Interesting pictures too, especially the copulating picture, didn´t see this before. It´s said, that the difference in size of the sexes in Green Anaconda (Eunectes murinus) is the greatest in all vertebrates. After seeing you pictures I´m in doubt if this is really true and in fact should count for Tropidalaemus ssp.
Best regards
