Please beware, to register at venomland you are requested to use your full name (first and family name) - nicknames are not allowed and will be not activated! thx Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

| Very nice lady It's my experience that the animals from Sulawesi are much more aggressive (defensive) then the Sumatra/Malaysian members. Jan | |

cheers Mario I know Mario but i'm not so fast with taking over those new names.... for more then one reason I'm afraid... As a matter of fact, i still call Viridovipera and others Trimeresurus. I stick with the Vogel approach instead of the Malhortra way when it comes to Trimeresurus so to speak edit: I forgot to post a picture of the male Jan

| well, thats understood - but still, mtDNA analyses showed clealry our findings. how ever, you can of corse use any name you like, but at this forum here, i will you remind - that there has been some changes recently.
i am working with Gernot Vogel together on many projects, recently just on the Tropidolaemus revision. and still, i accept the new revision of Anita (contraire to Vogel), because it makes sense, even the Malhortra paper is´nt perfect yet, and many questions still has to be answered, but it does not mean it is wrong and in error at all. that the whole green asian pit-viper group has to be reviewed was everybody more than clear. Anita just tried to stabilize the Taxonomy, and somebody has to start - even if it is just to give others the platform to continue working on it. there is no way, that all formerly known Species (Trimeresurus sensu lato) is just one family. i think we are dacor on that. everybody is welcomed to join into the quest in bringing light into the darkness!
cheers Mario | |

| Don't get me wrong Mario, i also believe that Malhortra approach is better then the old approach. In the end the only correct way I'll guess. But as far as i know, and you confirm that, it's not really finished yet. And just as i do with Tropidolaemus I'll stick to the old names until all the research is done, everyone agrees with those new names and papers are written and in the open. Why? Well, i don't want to end up in a discussion in which i can't/will not defense/substantiate other people opinion until i know why they have that opinion in the first place. Like i said, I'm just a simple hobbyist But don't worry, i will use the new names on this forum Jan | |

Jan i dont get you wrong, not at all Jan! i really understand your problem with it - and please feel free to follow what ever you think is wright for you. you dont need to use names you dont accept only because it is my forum. lets clarify somethings: Anita Malhotra is sure finished with here work so far. what i meant was, you never be finished with a Revision of a whole group, thats not that easy. but it points into the right direction. thats what it is all about! by the way, the new classification is widely accepted - so far its nothing wrong in using the new names... cheers Mario
