Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

My first ever breeding. I've got those wonderful Lampropeltis zonata from Peter Zürcher at 1.1.2009 when they were about half a year.
This is their first offspring, sticking his nose into the world right now (photo is a few minutes old). Let's see what the two other eggs will show me hopefully soon!

Congratulations, Guenter.
No one's more happy than me about your success.
What an entrance in snake breeding!
Looking forward to see more close shots.....and fingers crossed for the others.
Kind regards

Would not have worked without Your valuable hints, Peter!
A couple of days ago I thought, the egg has died, because it lost volume. I came home right now, had my usual view to the eggs and ... surprise!

And I bet You can imagine how the kids and Claudia were smiling!

Any things I must take into account right now? Usual temperature (25-27 C) is ok?

Two from three eggs finally succeeded in wonderful, little San Diego Mountain Kingsnakes. Sadly the third egg, which looked best of all three eggs to me, did not hatch. It seemed to have died a few days ago.

Schedule:

In October especially the female stopped feeding form her own. Until then she always was a good feeder, so I was a bit surprised. In November also the male stopped. Peter told me to hibernate them which I did for about 6 weeks in December/January at about 12 degrees in my basement. I provided them with a small basin of water and kept them rather dark (covering the enclosure).

I slowly raised the temperature in January until it reached the 25 degrees (room temperature im my working room because the computers there produce a lot of heat). After another week I shut on the lamp in the enclosure to get their usual 27-28 degrees and tried to feed them which worked immediately.

After a short while the male began to show interest for the female. I did not watch them mating, but the female got fatter and after a shed it layed three eggs on April 20th 2011. I incubated them at 28 degrees (27-29 - my "incubator" was selfmade, thanks Peter for the hints how to do it!) despite the eggs looked a bit deformed and yellowish (not bright white as I hoped).

On saturday June 11th the first one started to hatch - surprising again because I thought it would last maybe one or two weeks more. The second one hatched a day later.

Photos will follow. Hopefully I get them to eat, because from all I heard from Peter, those L. zonata pulchra are not easy to get to feed on mice.

BTW.: The mother of the youngstes recently showed aggressive behaviour against the male, so I had to separate them for the first time since I own them. And she has appetite like hell - let's see what is coming up here.
