Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Hi guys!

Does anybody have any experience with breeding boiga dendrophila melanota? I would be happy to get
informations as how to stimulate copulation, the duration of the incubation and temperature!

Thank you

Hi Kevin,
I have bred Boiga dendrophila dendrophila on a couple of occasions. I kept the male and female together all the time except to feed. one female of mine has laid 2 clutches a year. mating seems to take place at mainly between april and september. Mating is very aggressive and sometimes the male can have the females head in his mouth.
The eggs are laid after about 44 to 48 days and the average clutch size of mine was 9 eggs.
up to now I have left them with the female and removed the male. I kept the viv at 85 degF and sprayed it everyday. the eggs hatched at between 92 and 108 days. the babies are about 30cm long. mine shed for the first time at about 10 to 12 days. 25% ate pink mice right away the rest after a couple of weeks.
Hope this is of some use to you.
Paul

Hi Guys,
I have tried increasing the humidity and lowering the temp's but it doesn't seem to make much difference. over the years I have had Mangroves mate at any time of year. once she has layed the eggs then you do need to keep it at least 90% humidity.
I have one female which is looking gravid. I lost one earlier in the year which was gravid, not sure why? it would of been her third litter in 6 years.
Yes Stuart I usually sell the babies once they are feeding. I'll keep you posted.

I have always increased the humidity and decreased the daylight hours, when reaching October.
After 1½ months of heavy dayli misting I introduced the male to the females cage, and let him stay for a week. the I seperated them, fed them, waited for 4-5 days and paired them up again.
Did the same with my cyanes, and it worked every time.

I may or may not have been the change who stimulated copulation, but it worked for me several times Very Happy

Hello,
From my side, I have had problems to feed young snakes with pinky mice. After research to find a solution I have had success in conserving young in small boxes with small pieces of tubs, small waterdish, at constant temperature of 27°C. I help young to eat in two phases :
- take the snake by the back of the head and put the pinky at the entrance of the mouth and as soon as don't move up it has finished to swallow (they see very well in night and stop to swallow if they see movement)
- after some month (if it has not taken alone), present pinky at the young snake in exiting a little up it bites it and don't move.

The difficulty is to work in shade or night conditions to conserve behaviour ; so I have used the red light to not disturb snakes during this and see what I do.
I have used the same method for cyanea with success.
The difference between species is that the first is more aggressive than the second. The first searches to bite to each time than the second is calm, too calm and it is necessary to stress a little for the snake takes pinky in the mouth.
D.melanota has started to take food alone after 8 months than cyanea starts only to take alone after 10 months. I have tried since frozen and live pinkies and it was the same thing, it is the reason for I have decided to find an other method to assure to snakes to take food.

I don't know if you have all this problem to start young Boiga, but here it is my experience with this genus for 2 species.
Happy to share this with you about these fabulous snakes,
Franck

hi all,

Since I have posted this topic, I ve had 3 clutch of 5 to 6 eggs. For each clutch one or two youngs started readily to feed on live pinkies and the other had to be force
fed with pinkies 4-6 times before they started to feed. For me it has not been such a big deal to get them to feed and once they start they never stop... I might be lucky...
