Bitis cornuta success

For the past couple of years Ive poured all my time and effort exclusively into the dwarf Bitis group and this morning I woke up to the first fruits of my efforts, 8 healthy baby Many Horned Adders (Bitis cornuta)
Ive had the female for over a year now and the male around 2 years. Ive kept them together since I got her and witnessed countless matings. I only put animals together if they come from the same general region, these 2 are from areas 70kms apart which is close enough.

And this stillborn, notice he is deformed and completely striped from head to tail. Wouldve been bitchin if this one had made it out alive.

Alan Im not grumbling, I know that whatever irregularity caused the deformity is what caused the striping so I was never going to get a fully striped baby. Unless someone thinks otherwise? Smile

The sexing proved to be 2.6 so this is good, better than 6.2

Ah, I didn't think you were for one minute mate, sorry it's the classic coldness of the writen word striking again.

I sometimes forget that humour cannot be seen . If you read again and hear "Mustn't grumble" in a granny voice. It's a common phrase used by Grannies when making small chat on the streets. "Bloomin rain" , "Well, mustn't grumble dear, it's good for the garden ect ect" Laughing

"Ooooh I never, 8 baby cornuta and one stillborn. Do you know the stillborn was striped? " "Well I never! mustn't grumble dear, at least the other 8 are fine and healthy" Laughing

Impressive species, congratulations. Wish I could find a pair of these animals, I am fascinated by the dwarf Bitis spp. and this is one of my favourites.

Congratulations on the baby Cornutas.

Was the striped stillborn possibly an accidental morph varient?? If this one had of made it, would this be classed as a "morph"???

Nah just an abberant colouration I suppose.
Im sure if I had held it back and bred it out I couldve worked on a striped line, but alas its not meant to be.

I got home from work yesterday to find that this female had dropped 4 unfertilized ova in her cage. I had been wondering if she was actually gravid as she was not showing as obviously as she had last season.
Anyway after scrutinizing the cage further I noticed a small baby Bitis shed at the back of the cage, further investigating revealed this little lone ranger

So while I only got one baby Im very grateful as I was not expecting any.

I have 1 more female to drop, holding thumbs she does better.
