Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

Hey everybody,

I'm going to move to a little house with a 180x280x200cm shed in the garden. It's made of brick walls and has a usual residence window and door.
BUT: At least one of the walls is moist.

Does anyone has experience how this could influence the climatic conditions inside the snake room? Is there an increased risk of mold for the wooden cages and racks?

I'm going to post pictures when I get the opportunity to do some.

Regards.

Hello Manuel,

yes you should post some Picture, might be easier to answer your question..
in general, moist walls are a sign that somethings is not right, perhaps isolation, old age and so on. also fungi (who came along with the moist) and other stuff might be affecting not only your wooden cages, but the animals as well...

some construction company can perhaps fix that up before you move your snakes in? Also normal resident doors and windows might be not enough to satisfy your authorities if you intend to keep venomous snakes in there... you might check that out as well..

cheers
Mario

Hey Manuel,

When I built walls and ceiling and insulated them inside a steel building, I got condensation starting to build up on the walls. The room had heat and air conditioning, and the A/C was running, but water and mold formed on the walls. I went and bought a dehumidifier, and the problem was solved.

The dampness in your building can harm wood and cause mold, as Mario stated. The wall with the moisture is probably the wall that gets the least amount of sun on it's outside. I believe a dehumidifier will solve your problem.

Hello Manuel,

I work in construction an painting busines, so i have come across same problems, that you have in my work. There is a lot of stuff available against mold, but even if you get rid of it you will have to improve the ventilation. Mold usualy apears on old walls, where older bricks are used because in the past clay was not purified good enough. It's salty properties bind water and in closed places form mold. It's best to first desinfect the walls, beter even to remove old plaster, than first put on a coat of Acrylic Emulsion, best if sprayed. Than make a new plaster. Old moist plaster is usually loaded with mold and funghi and you don't need to see it to be there. Do not add cement to plaster. Cement draws moist from the air.

For paint is best to use Lime for painting. It will neutralise funghi and mold best. It is the most natural source that you can use, and it does not seal the wall. Lime is the best natural desinfectant. I use it in my business mostly in cellars and old moist buildings for inside and outside painting and it's working fine.

It will be easier to define your problem when you'll post some pictures of your snake room.
