Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

PostSubject: Hypo project - part III   Hypo project - part III Icon_minitimeFri 18 Feb - 17:21

Been a bit busy, it's been ages since my last update.
Anyways, here's an update on the hypo project.

On Feb. 23rd I introduced the male CM081-01 to the hypo female CM05-1.
On March 2nd I observed copulation around midnight, and it continued on to March 3rd, noon.
On March 6th I removed the male from the female's terrarium.
On Nov. 10th the female finally gave birth.

For reason yet unknown to me, the result was disappointing.
The litter consisted of...

13 slugs
0.1 stillborn
1.2 kinked
0.1 killed in action
2.6 live ones

Later on, on Nov. 11th, Nov. 30th and Dec. 3rd three apparently healthy babies simply dropped dead.
So I'm currently down to 0.5 from this litter, and so far none of them strike me as anything super special. In fact, two of the females that were born, were darker than most from this line so far.
Naturally I still have some months of waiting ahead of me, to see how these girls will change color.

All in all, it will take more time to try different combos to see if even lighter variations can be produced from this hypo line.
The hypo female is now given a resting period, and I sure as hell hope she doesn't get gravid on her own again. That just throws off my plans. Again... Smile

Here are some photos then...

It was extremely unfortunate that this male was so kinked it didn't make it. It would've been an absolute stunner as an adult, as it already had incredibly brilliant coloration. It does show the potential of this line though.

Any ideas on why your captive produced 'Burning Angel' /'Hypo' colour morph breeding project produces such a high percentage of abnormal offspring? I'm sure that the less experienced keepers here on the site would appreciate your insights. Sincerely, Jon Davidson .

Hello, I´ve never breed this snakes, but ´something that can explain what happend is because of the genetic disorders that happes when you breed hypos and albinos or anything else with a "morph" all morph creatures have a lot of mutations, "weak genes" and problems.
When breeding there is always a risk of something going wrong but when you breed geneticaly anormal snakes the chanc of getting mutations are biger than breeding nominals.

Hi all.

Walter, my adult females are in the range of 80-90cm, roughly. Adult males maybe 50cm, give or take some. I really haven't tried to measure any of them. Might try to get a better estimate next time I'm taking one out of the enclosure.

Jon, I believe one possibility is as Gustav described. Other potential reasons I can think of for the above results are:

* The male didn't mate the female properly
* His sperm wasn't viable
* Maybe more matings would've been required
* Possibly this was another attempt on the female's part to produce offspring from previous matings
* She had time to recover from previous litter - which was her own doing, no male - and she was well fed, but perhaps she could've used a longer recovery period (with T. puniceus, I'm doubtful about that, though)
* Maybe the hottest period in the summer was indeed a bit too much for her

Those are the ones off the top of my head. At least for now. I'll add to the list if I think of anything else when I'm less tired.

Oh and by the way, for the time being, there's no Burning Angel - morph; that's just a nick I use at some other forums, including my photobucket account. Not sure where you picked that up Smile
