Dear Venomland Members and Friends, Venomland is a little more than 6 years old now and by far the biggest Hot Snake community on the Planet! We want to thank all of you who made Venomland the leading Board. We are also very thankful to our Moderators and Admins for years of hard work. Now, it is time to move on. I have been thinking how to proceed and what to do with our beloved board as we reach a size, that we need to make drastic changes to secure the future of our community. As of now, Venomland is hosted by a free (well mostly free) hosting service. That was good for the first years but now we need to find a new way to run our forum. I have spend hundreds of Dollars over the years to keep Venomland up and running, and i have done so with pleasure. Now, we need your help! We need to come up with several thousand dollars for our Venomland 2.0 project, which i frankly cant pay for any longer by myself. So Venomland is asking his Friends and Members for the first time for their financial Support. Please help to keep Venomland alive, and let us move on to a new, better Portal in the Future! Every Dollar is helping us a great deal. I know, its hard times for everyone, but please spare a few Dollar for our community. If you have only 10 Dollars to spare, we are grateful, if it is more, it would be awesome. We are planning to develop a very new Venomland, with real community functions, a forum like you are already loving it and a real (online) Hot Snake Magazin. Also, there will be download areas for scientific papers, Wallpapers and more. Again folks, we can only do that if you all help. Please send me a Private Message if you want to keep Venomland alive, i will provide you with the details on how to donate Money. For now, we can accept money from creditcards via skrill (please google it, its a free service - account-details will be forwarded to you) and paypal. All the best, and for a (hopefully) nice future of our Board. Mario

EXACTLY Andrew!! Please call my wife and convince her that I'm not crazy for wanting 100 of them! When I had 100 Atheris, I was pretty happy. Not totally satisfied with how my breeding program was going, but I was pretty happy. Laughing

Nice series. Such beautiful specimens.
Who wouldn't be happy with 100 Atheris?! Very Happy That's insane, but in a good way, hehe.
I hope to build an Atheris - or at least squamigera - Empire of similar proportions to Finland with time...
Hey, a guy can dream, right? Laughing

PostSubject: Re: Squam Colors--Opaque-->Red   Squam Colors--Opaque-->Red Icon_minitimeTue 17 Jun - 21:31

I had a visitor come over sometime around 1999 or 2000 and his entire house was full of colubrids, wood turtles, and just about every species you could imagine, but he didn't specialize in any of them. He had ten times as many snakes as I did, but he didn't have more than 5-10 of any particular species. So he came over to my place and he kept asking:

What species is this red one?
Atheris squamigera.
What species is this yellow one?
Atheris squamigera.
What about this blue one?
Atheris squamigera.

He looked at me blankly and I finally said, "Okay, from here to here and all the way across both of those walls is nothing but the same species. OKAY?!!" He totally didn't get the point of it at all.

My point is that with only 5-10 examples of one species you really don't learn that much about that animal as a species. Yes, you can make some generalizations, but they will be very broad and not definitive. When I had so many squams I could learn so much because they were all somewhat different, but then they all do some of the same things, too. Like when Michael Jacobi was going to write his book and he contacted me saying that adults need to be misted because they won't drink from bowls. Well, my reply to that was if my adults didn't drink from bowls they would be dead because I almost never misted them during the dry season. My snakes absolutely without a doubt drank from bowls---all of them. And I had cbb, cb, and wc snakes from my collection, my brother's collection, and from a friend's collection when he got evicted from his house, so there was a nice mix of snakes there.

Mario, we have to figure out how to get some to you. Very Happy
